Amid Bollywood boycott trends, Alia Bhatt’s statement on nepotism, “If you don’t like me, don’t watch me” prompted netizens to start a “boycott Brahmastra” hashtag on social media. While calls for a boycott seem to have increased, Alia gave a cheeky response to the trend while promoting the film with Ranbir Kapoor and director Ayan Mukerji. During her recent press conference in New Delhi, when Alia was asked about the current climate, keeping in mind the boycott calls surrounding her upcoming film Brahmastra, she asked which climate, summer or winter, the media is talking about. She then said that there is no such thing as a negative environment and added that everything is beautiful and positive. She insisted that right now everyone should be healthy, safe and protected and feel grateful for life in general. She also asked not to spread negativity about anything. She said they are happy that the theaters are finally fully operational and can present their work for audiences to watch on the big screen. The boycott calls seem to have hit hard recently released films like Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha, Vijay Deverakonda’s Liger, Akshay Kumar’s Raksha Bandhan and Taapsee Pannu’s Dobaaraa. It remains to be seen if Brahmastra will break the barrier and overcome the boycott trends on social media.

Brahmastra is said to take the audience into a new universe called Astraverse, which will deal with various historical or mythological aspects of Indian culture. The film stars Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Amitabh Bachchan, Mouni Roy and Nagarjuna in lead roles. It also features Shah Rukh Khan in a cameo. The film, which has been made on a budget of Rs 400 crore, will release globally in theaters on September 9.
