Malala Yousafzai dressed like a desi Barbie on a date to the movies with her husband Asser Malik by donning a pink salwar suit ensemble. She shared a photo of herself and her husband from their movie date on Instagram.

Malala dressed up as Barbie and posed with her spouse in a life-sized Barbie box curated for the moviegoers while wearing her pink outfit. She captioned the picture cleverly, “This Barbie has a Nobel Prize. He’s just Ken.”

“We loved the movie, it was so funny and thoughtful. I hope this caption doesn’t hurt all the Kens as much as the movie Ken,” she included in the caption.

Asser wore a black blazer outfit, while Malala was dressed in a pink salwar-kameez attire. Even funnier, Asser added a remark on her post. He wrote, “I am Kenough,” along with a laughing emoji.

Greta Gerwig’s movie Barbie hit theatres on July 21, on the same day as Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer. The movie, which stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as Barbie and Ken, has had a phenomenal response from audiences all over the world.

Malala, who received her degree in politics, philosophy and economics from Oxford University in 2020, is the youngest person to win the Nobel Peace Prize for her endorsement of education.

Malala was shot at by the Taliban in 2012 as a result of her opposition to their bans on female education. She survived the potentially fatal attack and recovered stronger, dedicating the rest of her life to fighting for girls’ access to high-quality education.

On November 9, 2021, she published a social media post announcing her nuptials to Asser Malik.

Earlier this month, Malala’s entrepreneur husband posted a heartfelt message honouring her 26th birthday and a picture of the couple holding hands.

On Instagram, he wrote: “Happy Birthday, Malala. You don’t need any reminders of how amazing you are. But for what it’s worth, you are the best partner I could have ever hoped for.”

The human rights campaigner had previously stated that she would wait “at least until [she was] 35” before getting married. Malala was criticised after her wedding for what some perceived to be her hypocritical remarks to British Vogue earlier in the year. Then, she said that she didn’t “understand” why people got married, adding: “If you want to have a person in your life, why do you have to sign marriage papers, why can’t it just be a partnership?”

She addressed the criticism during an interview on The Andrew Marr Show and said: “I was not against marriage, I had concerns about marriage and that is true for many girls around the world who have seen reports about child marriage and reports about forced marriage.”

People had to inquire as to why “women make more compromises than men” in relationships, she added, “A lot of these customs are influenced by patriarchy and misogyny”.
