It’s Diwali week and Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn are set to explode at the box office with their respective films Ram Sethu and Thank God. The two Bollywood golems are stepping out a day after the festival of lights, but it seems the battle has already begun. Manoj Desai, the CEO of Gaiety Galaxy and Maratha Mandir Cinema, hit out at the makers of Ram Setu and Thank God for allegedly delaying advance bookings at individual screens across the country.
When Desai was asked why the bookings have not yet started at the Maratha Mandir, he said that the problem is not only in the said cinema hall but also in many individual screens across the country. “We were told not to open bookings kyunki pehle woh multiplex ko sambhalna chahte hai. Inki wajah se Diwali pe hum toh barbaad ho hi rahe hai. Main chahta hoon ki yeh log bhi barbaad ho jaaye,” he told Bollywood Hungama.
He further added that the distributors of Ram Setu and Thank God are fighting internally for the number of theater shows which unfortunately affects people like him. When Vinay Choksi of Aum Enterprise asked who is the booker of his theater when they can expect advance bookings to start, he replied, “Let the issue of sharing the show in the multiplex be resolved. Kal sochte hai kya karna hai’. Can you imagine?’
Desai said that he had planned to give 2 shows each of Ram Setu and Thank God, but the distributors of Ram Setu demanded 3 shows and 1 for Thank God. He also clarified that he has no problem with the distributors of Black Adam having a dip at the box office and said that they are suffering only because of the distributors of Ram Setu and Thank God.
The theater chain owner then concluded by saying, “Yeh log single screen theater ko latka dete hai. So many single screens are closing. I manage this theater with great difficulty. This is not the first time. It happened in the case of so many movies. We’re fed up.”
