ITV talk show host Lorraine Kelly, 62, appears to have taken a sly dig at TalkTV presenter Piers Morgan, 57, for his ‘gladiator-style’ interviews. The star appeared to take aim at pal Piers following his exit from ITV, as she compared him to his former co-star, Good Morning Britain’s Susannah Reid, 51, who she called a “fantastic” interviewer.

First, Lorraine addressed whether she had ever really considered leaving her job at ITV for a spot at TalkTV, where Piers hosts his show, Piers Morgan Uncensored.

“I’ve never had a conversation with Piers about moving to Talk TV,” Lorraine clarified. “When he left GMB he joked that I was his new TV wife but he was just being Piers.”

The star then went on to praise her ITV co-star Susanna, who went on to host Good Morning Britain following Pearce’s explosive exit from the show.

“He likes to stir things up and get people talking,” Lorraine said. “Since he left, Suzanne has been reporting from the border with Ukraine and Poland, and the interview she did with Boris Johnson was a masterclass in broadcasting.”

Lorraine has worked on ITV and previously GMTV for decades and is best known for her upbeat eponymous daily talk show Lorraine.

The star also celebrated 30 years of marriage to her cameraman husband Steve Smith, 62, last month.

The couple share one daughter, Rosie, 27, who is also a journalist and co-host of the podcast What If? with her mother.

Pierce previously presented Good Morning Britain alongside Susanna, first appearing as a guest presenter on the show in April 2015.

He then went on to become a permanent co-host in November 2015, appearing alongside Susanna and Charlotte Hawkins.

Pierce hosted the show for six years until March 2021, when his remarks about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s interview with Oprah Winfrey sparked an on-air row with Alex Beresford.

At the time, Meghan, 40, claimed the “racist treatment” she received while working as a senior member of the royal family made her feel suicidal, speaking in an interview with her husband Prince Harry, 37, and TV’s Oprah Winfrey.

Questioning the credibility of the Duchess of Sussex’s claims, Piers told GMB’s 1.9 million viewers at the time: “I’m sorry, I don’t believe a word she says, Meghan Markle. I wouldn’t believe it if she read me a weather forecast.

Alex went on to suggest that Pierce’s reaction was because he had some sort of personal vendetta against Megan.

During the conversation, Alex said: “I understand that you have a personal relationship with Meghan Markle or you had one and she cut you off.

“She has the right to cut you off if she wants to. Has she said anything about you since she broke up with you? I don’t think she did, but you keep breaking her down.’

Alex’s allegations saw Pearce flee the set of the ITV show and he has not presented GMB since.

The December issue of woman&home goes on sale Thursday 27 October 2022.

Lorraine airs weekdays at 9am on ITV.
