Live music, fashion show among Ann Arbor-area events happening Oct. 7-9

ANN ARBOR, MI — With live music, a fashion show and an art gallery, Ann Arbor has plenty of events to choose from this weekend. Find fun for the whole family at these events.

Friday, Oct. 7

Ann Arbor SPARK is kicking off the weekend with the a2Tech360, a technology-focused series of events happening over an entire week. A2Tech360 runs Oct. 7-14 and incudes a variety of events like the FastTrack Awards and the Invest360 investor showcase. Find more information online.

While some of a2Tech360′s events have paid tickets, there are also a variety of events free to the public, including the Mayor’s Autumnal Green Fair.

The fair, hosted in partnership with a2Tech360, is organized by the City of Ann Arbor and will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7. The fair includes a 6 p.m. parade, music performances, a cargo bike show and games. Find more information online.

Saturday, Oct. 8

ArtCareShop, located in Briarwood Mall, is hosting its debut fashion show from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8. The show, which will take place at 500 E. Liberty St., will also include a Y2K-themed party. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door.

Women’s March Ann Arbor and the University of Michigan’s Young Democratic Socialists of America chapter are co-hosting their fourth march and rally on Saturday, Oct. 8.

The rally, starting at Liberty Plaza, 310 S. Division St., is at 4 p.m. with music and tabling, followed by speakers at 4:30 p.m. The march begins at 5:30 p.m.

The second-annual Artoberfest, featuring a variety of art, live entertainment, food vendors and craft cocktails, will take place Oct. 8-9. The show is hosted by The Guild of Artists and Artisans and will take place in downtown Ann Arbor.

The A2 Artoberfest Fine Art Fair runs from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9.

Sunday, Oct. 9

An Ann Arbor bookstore is celebrating Indigenous Peoples Day with a story time event hosted by Native American author Stacie Sheldon.

Booksweet, 1729 Plymouth Road, is hosting the event, which will feature a story time at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9, meant for children, followed by a garden design event for teenagers and adults at 4 p.m. Registration is free.

The Creation Care Committee and Episcopal Church of the Incarnation is hosting a protest against Line 5 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9, at the Frog Island Amphitheater, 699 Rice St. in Ypsilanti. The rally, titled “Water Makes the Mitten,” will include speeches from local leaders, an “all-species parade” and information on Line 5. Find more information online.

Enjoy a live music performance, hosted by Third Place Music Fest, on Sunday, Oct. 9. Harmolodics Trio is performing at Cahoots Café, 206 E. Huron St., from 7 to 8 p.m. The trio plays standards and originals from the Black American music tradition.
