Bollywood is back in shape after being hit hard by the global pandemic. There are three to four releases a week again in theaters. At that time, one such film that came out was the Anshuman Jha starrer Lakadbaggha, a new concept that had not been explored in Indian cinema. The film is an attempt to portray a vigilante who is an animal lover. Read on to find out if Lakadbaggha is worth your time in theaters.

Lakadbaggha is a uniquely conceptualized film showing a vigilante animal lover versus an animal abuser king. It was touted as India’s first film about a vigilante animal lover, but it fell flat. The film is slow paced which does not hold the attention of the audience. Also, the film does not revolve around the title Lakadbaggha as the makers emphasized more on Arjun’s pet dogs till the end. Several scenes could have been cut to make them crisp, or more should have been added to justify the ending instead of a lackluster conclusion.

What are you talking about?

The story is set in Kolkata, where an ordinary Bengali boy, Arjun Bakshi, played by Anshuman Jha, is a dog lover and can’t stand anyone mistreating his dog friend and as a result, he stomps them to death. Bakshi is a martial arts trainer for children and a courier by day and a vigilant animal lover by night. One fine day his dog Shanku goes missing and while hunting, Arjun comes across a black-striped hyena, Lakadbaggha in Hindi. Soon after, he learns about the illegal animal trade in the city. While Riddhi Dogra is a crime branch officer who is on the hunt for a vigilante and unknown to her, the illegal trade is run by his brother played by Paresh Pahuja.

What’s new?

The action sequences are well choreographed from start to finish as Arjun Bakshi beats the criminals to their graves. The fight scenes are from the Israeli martial arts – Krav Maga. Anushamna Jha has pulled off all the stunts with ease and his acting is commendable. Paresh Pahuja killed his performance as the antagonist while Riddhi Dogra gave her best on the big screen as a debutante.

What is not

The title talks about Lakadbaggha and the main character Hyena is clearly a bad piece of VFX. The black-striped hyena is shown for a shorter time and looks fake. The background score doesn’t match the action scenes and the duration is extremely stretched out unnecessarily. Milind Soman’s cameo is a waste as he appears in a film after almost eight years.

BL Judgment

Lakadbaggha is suitable for OTT viewing at your comfort. It’s stretched to the point where unnecessary scenes could have been cut. Anshuman Jha as producer and protagonist and director Victor Mukherjee tried their best to make the film unique but it disappointed the audience. Two stars for acting and for loving stray dogs. Lakadbaggha had the potential to be a better film but its execution let it down.
