A fashion show featuring kimonos made with traditional Nishijin textiles has been held in Japan’s ancient capital of Kyoto for the first time in about three years.

The show held on Friday and Saturday at the Nishijin Textile Center was a daily event and drew many sightseers until the coronavirus pandemic.

The latest show introduced modern-style denim kimonos with pink and green obi sashes and kimonos for parents and kids to wear together.

Spectators were seen snapping photos and enjoying themselves.

One visitor from neighboring Shiga Prefecture said a long-sleeve kimono and a child in traditional Japanese clothing looked fantastic.

Another person from Kyoto City said it was great to see a kimono show in person for the first time after such a long while.

A Nishijin Textile Center official said she was glad to be able to hold the show. She said she hopes people will take a stroll around Kyoto wearing a kimono, as the autumn foliage is expected to soon reach its peak in Kyoto.
