Bollywood movies have failed to perform at the box office ever compared to south movies. Recent south dubbed films like KGF: Chapter 2, Pushpa and RRR have done huge business while Hindi films are struggling to find an audience in theatres. While much has been said and written about the Hindi film industry, Kajol seems to have cracked the code of everything that is wrong with Bollywood and fame.
Kajol said that actors have diluted the concept of stardom by sharing too much of their personal lives on social media, adding that it reduces the audience’s eagerness to go and watch them on the big screen. She herself avoids posting too much about her personal life on social networks.
“Most people put their whole lives on social media and only do that thing 24 hours a day. Half the time they’re on screen, half the time they’re on social media.” ). If you can see someone on social media, why would you go to the screen to watch them,” Kajol told Pinkvilla.
The Gupt actress also said that the only people who were known earlier were the people who will be seen on the big screen. “Now you can be known for n number of things – the way you do your hair, your nails, etc. There are so many ways to be famous today. Fame itself has become a much-used common pronoun,” she added.
Kajol along with Bobby Deol recently celebrated the success of their cult film Gupt, which turned 25 years old. The Rajiv Rai directorial was released on July 4, 1997 and also featured Manisha Koirala and the late Om Puri among others.
