Judith Durham’s sibling, singer Beverley Sheehan, will perform tonight as the nation pays tribute to her “little sister Judy”.
I had a chat to her yesterday, and she told me it had been such a whirlwind of planning, she’d barely had time to reflect on the loss.
As people have shared their fond memories with her, Ms Sheehan said she’d found herself thinking “I must ring Judy and tell her that”.
“The other thing that happened the other night was, I have a landline which hardly ever gets used and the only person who rang on it was Judy,” she said.
“And I’m thinking to myself ‘oh my goodness, that must be Judy ringing me’, and then it hit me, of course it wasn’t.”
Despite the grief, she said it was “wonderful” her sister’s rich life was being given the recognition it deserved.
“If she were here, I think she would be absolutely delighted and we’re thrilled to bits with the way the whole thing has come together,” she said.
“The fact we all have her music is a wonderful gift.”
