Iranian authorities have arrested a journalist who published interviews with families of death row inmates in connection with protests against the wearing of the hijab, a report said.
“Mehdi Beikogli, head of the political department of the Etemad daily, was arrested last night,” the newspaper wrote on its website, AFP reported. So far, 14 Iranians have been sentenced to death in connection with the protests that began after the death in custody of Mahsa Amini in September.

Mahsa Amini was arrested following her arrest by Iran’s controversial morality police for not wearing her hijab properly.
The arrested journalist interviewed several families of people sentenced to death because of the protests, reported AFP.
“His wife tweeted that Mehdi’s mobile phone, computer and personal belongings were confiscated during the arrest,” Etemad said. It comes after two men were executed last month in connection with the demonstrations. Twelve others were sentenced to hang, AFP reported, while some are awaiting retrials.
Meanwhile, Iran’s top security authority said last month that more than 200 people, including members of the security forces, had been killed since the protests began. Judicial authorities reported charges against more than 2,000 people.
