Intriguing podcasts and interviews with their creators

[ad_1]

This week we’re sharing one of our favorite episodes from October 2022.

True crime is one of the most popular podcast genres, but the stories we hear often don’t focus on the victims or the people left behind after the tragedy.

This is the podcast Media Circus with Kim Goldman aims to change. The course of Goldman’s life changes when her brother, Ron Goldman, is murdered along with OJ Simpson’s ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson. In the media circus that followed, and her lasting grief, Kim was struck by the disparity between how the media covered the crimes and what it was like to be personally affected by them.

This week, Kim joins us for an interview about her hopes for the podcast and what she’s learned from speaking with so many families affected by trauma.

Plus a conversation with one of the creators of Hot money, the series that takes listeners inside the porn industry. Both Serena and Venus Williams are revered as tennis greats, but it wasn’t always that way. This week, we bring you the inspiring minds behind some of the greatest podcasts of 2022 – and, of course, a sampling of their work.

Media Circus with Kim Goldman: “Fred Gutenberg’s daughter, Jaime, a freshman at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, was killed when a 19-year-old former student opened fire on students and staff, killing 17 and wounding 17 others. From this day in February 2018 and into memory of his daughter Jaime and for all victims of gun violence, Fred is using his voice to advocate for gun safety legislation. In this first episode of Media Circus, host Kim Goldman talks to Fred about his personal experiences, trauma, grief, resilience and healing.”

Hot money:When the internet started gaining popularity in the early 2000s, it changed the way people viewed porn. A German computer programmer named Fabian Tillmann saw the amount of web traffic as an opportunity and began buying up as many free tube sites as he could, eventually building a huge porn empire.

All American: Venus and Serena: “While Venus and Serena Williams are revered today, twenty years ago both were booed. In All-American: Venus & Serena, host Cecil Harris, a veteran sports reporter who has covered the Williams sisters for nearly their entire career, revisits jaw-dropping moments that defined their time in the spotlight through interviews with retired tennis players, fans, journalists and their former coach Rick Machi. Through their story, All-American: Venus & Serena reveals ugly truths about how America often ignores, despises, and opposes black supremacy—until it becomes undeniable.”
