Sky Blues boss Mark Robbins has encouraged his side to build momentum now that they can return to games on a consistent basis.
Oscar Estupinan’s hat-trick earned the Tigers all three points in Humberside, despite Matty Godden’s well-taken brace.
Robbins admitted the Sky Blues gifted Estupinan his three goals and insists his side must rid themselves of the mistakes that led to the conceding.
“We were poor and kept giving the ball away too easily and conceding goals is becoming a bad habit,” began Robbins.
“You can blame the lack of rhythm. It’s been 13 days since we played and it’s not equal because we’re playing against teams that have played five games and we’ve only played three.
“The goalkeeper has to take responsibility and handle the goal. He will be disappointed, it could have been avoided and today he had three and the first goal against Millwall we conceded.
“We gave them the goals they scored today and that’s seven goals in three away games we’ve conceded. We can’t keep doing this and ultimately we have to be better.”
Robbins reinforced the need for his side to hold together in the next series of games and reflected positively on individual performances against the Tigers.
“We can be more consistent because there are goals in the team and we are blessed with players who can score and players who can create,” he said.
“That’s right, we’ve got to stick together and try to build momentum pretty quickly, but we’ve got to try to pick up the pace where the other teams are, and that’s what happens when you’re not playing.
“I have to say it was nice to be back playing and having fans. They missed it, you can tell by their voices. Even when we were losing 3-1 and the team was weak.”
To sign, the Robins have settled on Dom Higham, who was omitted from today’s matchday squad after the club confirmed they had received an offer for the defender’s services.
“I can’t complain when players outgrow the mold because we tell them when they come to the club to grow with us and hopefully we’ll go places together and Dominic came with us from League Two.
“The players and staff that have worked with him have all helped him get to this position. He did brilliantly and every year he does better and better.
“When he goes, he goes with our blessing. I’m very disappointed to lose him, one hundred percent disappointed, but we have to try to find someone to replace him. We have to deal with it and we will, and we have to try to get that momentum going as quickly as possible.
