COVID-19 cases in India had begun rising in the first half of April after 11 weeks of steady decline. Between April 11 and April 17 the weekly numbers had reported a 35% hike, primarily due to a surge in cases from Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. “What we’re seeing are blips and not the start of a new COVID-19 wave caused by a variant. These blips are currently restricted to certain geographies and not uniformly spread across the country, or a state,” he said.
