I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! viewers couldn’t resist pointing out the glaring irony after Matt Hancock was appointed camp leader.

The former health secretary’s stint on this year’s series has sparked outrage across the nation after he infamously stepped down from his position last year after CCTV footage of him kissing his aide, and ultimately broke social distancing guidelines.

During Sunday’s edition, radio DJ Chris Moyles told the camp that ‘the public have been voting for the first leader of camp.’

‘The two celebrities with the most votes will go head-to-head in a challenge to decide who will become the leader. Those two celebrities are – Mike and Matt,’ he said.

The two leaders later chose their deputies with, Mike choosing Coronation Street’s Sue Cleaver and Matt picking A Place In The Sun presenter Scarlette Douglas.

Reflecting on the unexpected result, Hancock said: ‘Obviously, it’s a great honour and privilege to be camp leader. I want to thank everybody who voted for me.’

However, Lioness football star Jill Scott represented the nation when she asked the politician: ‘Just to be clear are these guidelines or rules?’

While 80s pop star Boy George declared that neither Hancock or Mike ‘will have any power over me. If I don’t want to do something I won’t do it.’

Fans were also left scratching their heads over Hancock’s current jungle position with one writing: ‘matt is camp leader i’m never forgiving y’all for this.’

‘so we’re going to vote matt hancock for every trial but willingly make him camp leader?? logic has evaporated,’ another added.

Before he was crowned camp leader, Hancock endured a pretty painful Bushtucker trial which saw him getting stung by a scorpion.

The politician was tasked with navigating an ‘eerie house in the jungle’ full of critters.

‘Ouch, f***! That really hurts!’ he yelled.

‘I’ve got no splinter. Ow, that really hurts… it’s like I must have been bitten by something. Oh yeah! Wow, look at that a scorpion. I’ve been stung by a scorpion.’

Presenter Ant adds that the room contains 2.5million flies before joking that he counted them individually.

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! continues tomorrow at 9pm on ITV.
