For your role

This is a highly diverse, stimulating role where you will lead a wide range of our statutory and regulated services with a wider collaborative team. This includes everything from our Coroner’s Service to emergency deaths as well as birth, death, marriage, ceremony and citizenship registrations. You will also develop and launch our statutory and regulated client service business plan, aligning it with our ambitious client strategy.

You will need a real passion for change, with the ambition to lead a real shift in the adoption of automation to deliver improved resident services. You will use data and insights to drive change and drive efficiencies and support overall client strategy.

You will need the ability to work with multiple regulations as you will improve all policies, processes, practices and activities related to our services. You will also be responsible for compliance and ensuring that team members across all services have the right skills and support to thrive in their roles.

Statutory and regulated services is a particularly fast-paced area of ​​the council as we process a large number of registrations. You will be supporting residents during some of life’s most significant moments and the role comes with real challenges but also huge opportunities; you will define a service that helps thousands of people in Essex to carry out important tasks and live better lives.

For the experience we’re looking for

We are looking for a multi-talented, highly capable leader. We are interested in your level of experience and skills in addition to the business management qualifications (or equivalent experience) you have for this role.

You will have a strong track record of managing successful customer operations, leading teams, driving significant change programs and creating positive work cultures.

You will also need excellent leadership, influencing, negotiation and communication skills, as well as the ability to build successful high-performing teams with diverse backgrounds and abilities.

Please note that informal first stage interviews for this role will take place virtually via Teams on Thursday 1 June 2023.

Formal second stage interviews will take place in person at our County Hall offices in Chelmsford, Essex on Thursday 15 June 2023.
