Dia believes that the entertainment industry has undergone a radical change since her debut.

Since her film debut in 2001, Dia Mirza has been adding more dimensions and aspects to her creative life with each passing year and today her work has grown to encompass not only various roles but also a production company, environmental entrepreneurship and extensive work with the United Nations as (please add name).

Dia, who turns 41 on December 9, says: “Each passing year has added a sharper nuance and definition to my work and brought with it new insights into how I can do more and be more. It has become increasingly important to me to use my voice to highlight the challenges facing the planet and the issues that affect our collective well-being as a race. This search for meaning and purpose is now reflected in my choices as an actor and entrepreneur. In addition to my work with the UN, I have now also started investing in sustainable brands because I believe we should all do what we can to take better care of the planet.”

Now, Dia is also being offered roles that really represent the complexity and depth that women are capable of, and she says, “Now I see a thread of intentionality in my choices as an actor as well. Whether it’s ‘Dhak Dhak’ where I play a biker wearing a hijab, ‘Kaafir’ where I play a woman caught up in the politics between two countries or ‘Gray’ where I articulate the importance of consent as a psychotherapist, I play women who think and feel deeply and act according to their own specific set of values. It’s no accident that I now choose to work with artists whose work I really admire.”

Dia feels that the entertainment industry has undergone a sea change since her debut and says, “Leaders today are no longer one-dimensional and aging is also taking a backseat as strong, well-rounded women come to the fore to tell stories from their perspective. I am really glad to be a part of this beautiful change.”
