Free Dates, Flirty Fashion And Epic Train Travel For 2023, Pinterest Predicts

[ad_1]

With an eye toward 2023, Pinterest has released its annual forecast of trends based on an analysis its AI has conducted on billions of searches taking place on the idea-sharing site. The company claims that in the last three years, 80% of its predictions have come true. Here’s a look at what to expect in the new year.

Gen Z

Graduating into economic uncertainty where canceled internships, hiring freezes, and sweeping layoffs, particularly in the tech sector, have raised anxiety among the newest entrants of the workforce, Gen Z is emerging as a generation of savvy savers where cash is king.

For dating, pricey happy hours are expected to give way to experiences that cost little to nothing, like biking by the beach. Because the best things in life are free (or almost free), searches for “date picnic ideas” have been up 385%, “aquarium dates” up 235% and “bookstore dates” up 195%.

For travel, scenic rail adventures might just be the next hot getaway. Train bragging has been trending along with searches for “Indian railway station photography” which has been up 175%, “interrailing Europe aesthetic” up 105% and “train quotes travel” up 285%.

For fashion, the look to watch for is romcom core inspired by romantic comedies like Clueless, The Holiday and Sex in the City from the late nineties and early aughts. Searches for “2000s girl” are up 235%, “summer outfits vintage 90s” up 150%, “cool girl aesthetic outfits” up 140%, “pink miniskirt outfit” up 145% and “rhinestone dress” up 90%. Pinterest is also predicting a comeback in rave culture with searches for “Berlin rave fashion” up 250% and “house music outfits” up 185%.

Millennials

For Millennials tying the knot, weddings awash in earth tones are being predicted as searches surge for “burnt orange wedding theme” up 695%, “terracotta wedding bridesmaid dresses” up 230% and “copper saree” up 285%. And for those with a baby on the way, the fourth trimester is expected to bring a lot more pampering with “postpartum gifts” queries up 140%.

The gamification of high-yield savings accounts is expected to be a thing as interest rates continue to rise. Searches for “biweekly saving challenges” have been up 355% with people crafting do-it-yourself competitions with rewards to sock away money.

Gen X

For fitness, watch for a return to “primal movement” with searches for basic workouts featuring push-ups, pull-downs, bridges, lunges, squats and planks up 120%. Attention to avoiding return-to-office sitting injuries is also being forecasted with searches for “neck hump exercises” up 210% and “mobility stretches” up 140%.

For house decor, what’s old might be new again as searches have jumped for “eclectic interior design vintage” 850% and “mixing modern with antique furniture” 530%.

Puppy pool parties are also expected to make a splash as searches for “DIY dog areas in backyard” have been up 490% along with “mini pool ideas” up 830%.

Boomers

Boomers are expected to double down on sustainable living as searches for “drought tolerant landscape design” have increased 385%.

Hobbies like origami and journaling are likely to be popular as searches on “how to make paper rings” have been up 1725%, “writing therapy” up 1840% and “art journal therapy” up 3755%.

And YOLO “you-only-live-once” celebrations are believed to be in the works for major milestone events as queries for “golden anniversary party” have been up 370%.

These findings were based on data through September 2022, before the last rounds of interest rate hikes, but if Pinterest’s AI proves correct, it should be an exciting year ahead for an optimistic and resilient consumer regardless of the economy. The company will be at CES sharing more from the study.
