In our top story. Filmmaker Farhan Akhtar took to social media on 8th August, to quell all speculations surrounding Don 3. In a short video announcement, he confirmed the film’s existence. Hours later, Farhan shared another significant update, revealing that Shah Rukh Khan, who portrayed the iconic character in Don and Don 2, will not be part of the upcoming project. The statement read, “The time has come to take the legacy of Don forward and joining us in this new interpretation will be an actor whose talent and versatility I have admired. A new era of Don begins in 2025!” Reports suggesting Ranveer Singh will replace SRK in Don 3 have been circulating, but nothing has been confirmed yet.
Moving on. Karan Johar’s latest directorial, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, has taken the box office by storm, captivating both critics and audiences alike. However, fans noticed the absence of Shah Rukh Khan, who is known for his cameo appearances in Johar’s films. When questioned about it, the filmmaker told Sucharita Tyagi – “Shah Rukh did the most defining scene for me in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and for that, I will always be very grateful to him. I can’t keep using my privilege with him. I can’t push it. If I go to him again, it will be too much. Shah Rukh never says no to me. I think I need to keep that card very close.”
Alia Bhatt is basking in the success of Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani and just a few days, she will be making her Hollywood debut with Heart of Stone where she plays the antagonist. In a recent interview with Film Companion, Alia opened up about her first impression of Gal Gadot, her co-star in the film. She shared – “Gal was so warm and she asked if we wanted coffee after a hectic workday. And then she went and made the coffee herself in her trailer and she gave it to us. I remember speaking to my husband Ranbir after that. I was like, ‘Ranbir, she made me coffee. Can you believe it? Wonder Woman made me a coffee!”
Meanwhile, playback legend Asha Bhosle who turns 90 on September 8th, announced a Broadway-style show, titled “Asha@90”, to be held in Dubai on her birthday. The dynamic performer, while addressing a press interaction at a hotel in Mumbai said – “Over the decades, I have worked with the industry’s best and come to know them closely. Whatever I am today is because of my 80 years as an artist.” The ambitious musical show will feature nearly 55 performers, including 23 dancers. It will not only take the viewers through the illustrious journey that she has had but also entertain them with some of her best songs. The show marks her return to the stage in Dubai after a decade.
The trailer of Goldfish, starring actors Kalki Koechlin and Deepti Naval dropped on Tuesday, 8th August and it offers a sneak peek of the story of a mother-daughter as they rediscover their relationship. Deepti plays the ailing mother, struggling with dementia, who is now living with her daughter, played by Kalki, who is struggling financially. Rajit Kapur also plays a significant role in the film. Directed by Pushan Kripalani, the movie appears to be a heartfelt tale of relationships and their evolution as individuals, who grow and deal with their past trauma. The movie premiered at the Busan International Film Festival in 2022. Goldfish releases officially in Indian theatres on August 25.
Meanwhile, fans haven’t stopped lauding Sushmita Sen, who has transformed herself into transgender activist Shreegauri Sawant, for Taali. The JioCinema original is set for an Independence Day release and will bring to life the story of Ganesh and the adversities she faced as she became Gauri and the struggles that followed. There is a section of the audience, however, who pointed out how a transgender actor could have been given a chance to play the lead role. When asked about it, Sushmita told indianexpress.com – “I think in a greater conversation they are not wrong. But in this case, Gauri chose me. She made sure that the makers approached me with the offer. I will forever remain in her debt.”
Actors Abhishek Bachchan, Saiyami Kher and filmmaker R Balki have started promoting their upcoming film Ghoomer. In a recent interview with Etimes, the cast answered some fun questions with Abhishek taking the trophy for his witty answers. The trio was asked, who their favourite co-star was who they wouldn’t mind taking a selfie with. To this, Abhishek was quick to say, “My wife!”. He further said that Aishwarya takes the best selfies and added – “You know she will make you look good”. Ghoomer tells the story of a female cricketer, who loses her right arm in an accident. The film is slated to release on 18 August. The film also stars Angad Bedi and Shabana Azmi in pivotal roles.
Lastly, Sunny Deol, who will soon be seen in Anil Sharma’s Gadar 2, has been promoting his upcoming film extensively and in one of the recent interviews, the actor spoke about Bollywood camps and the pretentious nature of people in the industry. In a chat with Puja Talwar, Sunny said – ” “Everybody comes and hugs you and meets you as they love you so much but all of that is fake. There are so many things that have been going on, will keep going on because they are such good actors in real life, maybe not on the screen.”
