In our top story. After a good start at the box office, Sara Ali Khan and Vicky Kaushal‘s romantic comedy Zara Hatke Zara Bachke has witnessed a slight drop. The film, which opened to mixed reviews from critics, earned around Rs 4.41 crore, taking its total earnings to Rs 26.73 crore. The film, which is said to have profited from its unique ticket-selling strategy of one plus one free, valid until Sunday, 4th June, has performed decently at the box office without any sales aid. Directed by Laxman Utekar, Zara Hatke Zara Bachke, set in a small town in India, revolves around a married couple trying to get a fake divorce. The film marks Vicky and Sara’s first film together.

Moving on. Bollywood star Swara Bhasker on Tuesday, 6th June, announced that she is expecting her first child. Sharing a few photos with her husband, Fahad Ahmad, the actor flaunted her baby bump as she made the big announcement. Taking to Instagram to inform her followers that the baby is due in October, she wrote – “Sometimes all your prayers are answered all together! Blessed, grateful, excited (and clueless!) as we step into a whole new world!” Swara’s followers dropped messages congratulating the couple in the post’s comments section. Journalist-author Shubhra Gupta’s upcoming book ‘Irrfan: Life in Movies’, published by Pan Macmillan India, traces the late star’s journey and features many of his collaborators including Tigmanshu Dhulia. In an exclusive excerpt from the upcoming book, Dhulia shared – “I think if I consider Irrfan – not anyone else’s contribution so much – I would say his best performance is Paan Singh Tomar, undoubtedly. Irrfan’s method when he was working was also how he lived his life. He was a good actor because his observation of life was very surgical, very meticulous. Irrfan’s observation of life was so nice that his performance always used to look fresh, and unpredictable. He used to rise above his character.”

Meanwhile, more than 15 years later, Imtiaz Ali’s Jab We Met remains an all-time favourite among its fans. Kareena Kapoor’s portrayal of the central character Geet continues to be appreciated, and the performance is often ranked among the best of her career. During a conversation with Hindustan Times, when asked why every film she does is compared to her iconic performance, Kareena said: “ It will always be compared to Geet, she is iconic I understand. But I feel people should talk about Chameli, Omkara and Heroine – they’re pretty underrated in terms of my performances.” Likening Jab We Met to “Ghar ki khichdi“, she said: “You see it again and again, it doesn’t seem like an old film. That’s rare.”

The final trailer for the Hindi-Telugu bilingual epic Adipurush, starring Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, Saif Ali Khan, Sunny Singh, and Devdatta Nage, was released at a grand pre-release event in Tirupati on Tuesday, 6th June. More than one lakh fans were said to have attended the event. As far as the new trailer of the Om Raut directorial goes, it is not as sub-standard as the first teaser of the film, which prompted a months-long delay in its release. The opening sequence of the trailer–the kidnapping of Janaki by Lankesh–features some detailed CGI work. However, such quality is inconsistent, though it is not a matter of concern for Prabhas’ fans as the trailer crossed over 350k views in minutes.

Meanwhile, megastar Amitabh Bachchan makes it a point to greet his fans every Sunday outside his Mumbai residence, and in a recent blog post, Bachchan shared several photos of one such meet-and-greet. The actor wrote – “I feel they wait for hours in this sweltering heat, so we provide them drinking water with lime to quench their thirst .. 4 containers, 2 on either side of the gate.” The actor said that he greets his fans barefoot, and when people “sarcastically” comment, “Who goes out wearing socks and bare feet?” He explained his reason for doing so. He shared – “You go to the temple bare feet… my well-wishers are my temple.”

Ever since Bengali superstar Prosenjit Chatterjee revealed that he was the first choice for director Sooraj Barjatya’s blockbuster romantic drama Maine Pyar Kiya, fans have been curious to know more about the actor’s decision to turn the opportunity down. Although Prosenjit had previously shown disinterest in discussing the matter, he recently addressed the topic. During a chat with Mashable India, the actor shared – ” It’s all fate. The most important point is that one of India’s top-most stars and greatest actors, Salman Khan, whom I respect, was born through Maine Pyar Kiya. I have lost other films too which went on to become big successes. Why regret such things? We have to go forward.”

Lastly, in an old interview that has now surfaced on the internet, Pooja Bedi talks about how her life changed after she decided to part ways with her husband, Farhan Furniturewala. In an interview with Doordarshan Sahyadri, Bedi was asked how she built her life post-separation, especially because she walked out of the marriage without alimony from her ex-husband. Bedi, a mother of two, including actor Alaya F, said – “Back in the day, the court systems were different and the women’s rights movement wasn’t so active the way it is today. I thought if I go to court and fight it out, there will be bitterness, my kids will suffer as well.”
