Let’s begin with our top story. The Ajay Devgn directorial Bholaa remains the first choice for moviegoers on weekdays. After earning Rs 4.50 crore on its first Monday, 3rd April the film also posted a similar total on Tuesday, 4th April. As per the trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the action film’s total collection stands at Rs 53.58 cr. It is a decent total, given how Devgn’s previous films as director, Runway 34, Shivaay and U Me Aur Hum, performed in theatres. Adarsh also is positive about Bholaa registering a good total by the end of its second weekend in the theatres. The film, a remake of the Tamil hit, Kaithi, also features Tabu as an IPS officer, starring alongside Devgn.
Moving on. Bollywood star Salman Khan on Wednesday, 5th April took a jibe at the young actors in the Hindi film industry stating how the ‘five of them’ i.e – Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar, Aamir Khan and Salman himself will give them a run for their money. At the 68th Filmfare Awards 2023 press conference, the actor was asked who among the new lot of actors has managed to impress him. Sharing that all of them are talented, focused and hardworking, Salman said that he and his contemporaries are not giving up so easily. He said – “We are not retiring anytime soon.”
Actor Raveena Tandon, on Wednesday,5th April was awarded the fourth highest civilian award, Padma Shri, by President Draupadi Murmu at a gilded ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah were in attendance during the presentation ceremony. Expressing her gratitude for being picked for the top honour, Tandon earlier said, “Honoured and grateful. Thank you so much, Government of India, for acknowledging my contributions to cinema and the arts, which allowed me to contribute, not only to the film industry but beyond. I owe this to my father.” Raveena received a lot of appreciation for her performance in the pan-India 2022 blockbuster KGF 2.
Meanwhile, Amitabh Bachchan is back to work after a short break. The actor shared via his blog that he resumed work even though he continues to recover from an injury. He suffered the injury while shooting for the film Project K. In an earlier post informing fans of his injury, he had shared that his “rib cartilage popped,” and there was a “muscle tear to the right rib cage.” After a CT scan in Hyderabad, doctors advised Bachchan to rest at home. In the wee hours of Wednesday, 5th of April, Big B took to his blog to share some photos of himself, on set. He wrote, “Off to work. A few limps and slings apart but striding on.”
It’s going to be a clash of the titans as Jr NTR comes on board to star in the sequel of the blockbuster actioner War, where he will lock horns with actor Hrithik Roshan. War 2, set to be directed by Ayan Mukerji, will go on floors by the end of the year. The film is billed as a true blue pan-India outing with the coming together of Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, who is currently riding on a global wave of popularity with the Oscar-winning RRR. YRF’s ambitious spy universe, which was kicked off with Shah Rukh Khan’s global hit Pathaan, will now see films like Tiger 3, headlined by Salman Khan, War 2 and the Tiger v/s Pathaan film.
Meanwhile, It’s almost 25 years since Mani Ratnam‘s Dil Se, which starred Shah Rukh Khan, Manisha Koirala and Preity Zinta in lead roles. Chaiyya Chaiyya”, which featured Malaika Arora and SRK dancing on a moving train, emerged as one of the most iconic songs in Indian cinema. Malaika recently spoke about it and said several heroines rejected the song before she came on board. Actor Mrunal Thakur will be seen playing a female cop in Gumraah, the Hindi adaption of Thadam — a Tamil language crime thriller that also stars Aditya Roy Kapur. The actor who is still relishing the success of her last multilingual, Sita Ramam co-starring Dulquer Salmaan, shares how filmmakers have now started writing stories keeping her in mind. She said in a recent interview with The Indian Express – “I am really happy in the phase that I am in right now. It’s taken me a couple of years to reach where I am today. It is lovely when I meet filmmakers now and they say ‘We are writing something, especially for you. It is kind of a relief.”
Lastly, Actor Swastika Mukherjee has accused Sandeep Sarkar, one of the producers of her upcoming film Shibpur, of sexual harassment. She claimed to have received several emails from a man named Ravish Sharma on behalf of Sarkar, who she said threatened her with dire consequences if she doesn’t promote the film. She was told that if she doesn’t comply, he will hack into her profiles, morph her photos using AI, and upload them on pornography websites. In an interview with OTT Play, she said that she has been in touch with the authorities ever since the problems began last month and has already filed a police complaint, but is going public with her allegations because they’re causing her distress.
