The trailer of Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani dropped on Tuesday, 4th of July, and as everyone predicted, the film is a typical extravagant Bollywood family drama packed with romance, emotions, song and dance. The film stars Alia Bhatt, Ranveer Singh, Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan and Shabana Azmi in pivotal roles. The trailer introduces us to Rocky, who has fallen for Rani. She comes from a well-educated Bengali family in Kolkata. Both their worlds are opposites, hence before marriage, they decide to ‘switch’ their families to know if their marriage will survive. This film marks Karan’s return to the director’s chair. It is scheduled to hit the screens on July 28.

 

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, July 4th, filmmaker Karan Johar went live on Instagram to chat with his fans about his upcoming film, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. Fans were curious to know if there are surprises cameos in the movie since Karan’s films always feature guest appearances from his friends, Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Rani Mukerji. When asked about SRK, Karan said – “No, he is not in the film but his love and blessings are always with me.” The filmmaker added that there are “three surprise cameos” in the film. Eagle-eyed fans have already spotted Ananya Panday in a dance number in the trailer. The other two stars are yet to be revealed.

 

According to a report in ETimes, superstar Shah Rukh Khan underwent minor surgery after he met with an accident in Los Angeles. The actor was in the US for a shoot where he ended up hurting his nose. Shah Rukh, who is currently awaiting the release of his next Jawan, was shooting for a project when the incident occurred. Khan began bleeding after he hurt his nose and was immediately rushed to a hospital. The doctors reportedly informed his team that there was nothing to worry about and he was required to undergo a minor surgery. The report read, “Post the operation, SRK was spotted with a bandage on his nose and is now back in the country, recuperating at home.”

 

Moving on. Actor Kartik Aaryan and filmmaker Kabir Khan had announced their first collaboration in July 2022 and now, exactly a year later, the duo have announced the movie’s title. The film, based on a real-life story, has been titled Chandu Champion. Chandu Champion will hit screens on July 14, 2024. Kartik took to social media to share the title and release date of the film. He wrote, “Chandu Nahi… Champion Hai Main.” The film’s tagline reads, “The true story of a man who refused to give up.” Chandu Champion also brings back Kartik Aaryan and producer Sajid Nadiadwala together after the success of their recently released film Satyaprem Ki Katha.

 

Calling “Satya” a game changer in Indian cinema, Manoj Bajpayee said the film gave him a career and it was only after its humongous success that he “started getting roles, respect and entry into big offices”. Directed by Ram Gopal Varma, “Satya” was released in theatres 25 years ago and the film is still lauded by cinema enthusiasts for its execution and treatment. Bajpayee, who played the iconic gangster Bhiku Mhatre, told PTI in a new interview – “It completely changed the industry. From the way the stories were told to the craft, or the way people look at filmmaking or performances, everything was so new both for the industry and the audience.”

 

Meanwhile, Urmila Matondkar, who played a pivotal role in Ram Gopal Varma’s Satya, recently took to Twitter on the film’s 25th anniversary and mentioned that she wasn’t recognised by any awards or nominations for playing a “simple naive girl” in the film. At the time, Urmila was largely known for playing glamorous roles in films like Rangeela, Judaai and a few other films. She shared – “25 years of Satya and of playing a simple naive chawl girl Vidya at the peak of my glamorous career. But no, what did that have to do with “acting”?.. no awards and not even nominations? So sit down and don’t talk to me about favouritism and nepotism.”

 

Shekhar Kapur is currently basking in the success of his latest release, What’s Love Got To Do With It? In a recent interview, the filmmaker divulged details of the sequel of his 1983 directorial debut movie Masoom, which is titled Masoom – The New Generation. In an interview with Variety, Shekhar that the new film is about the “idea of home”. He shared – “One of the big things that has been happening is that kids have been moving away – from small towns to the West. There is this little thing, a guilt that never goes away. And home – what is it? It is memories – people growing up, the walls have memories. Everything is a memory.”

 

Lastly, Actor Kriti Sanon on Tuesday, 4th July, announced her foray into film production with her banner Blue Butterfly Films and said she will back stories that will “touch people’s heart”. The 32-year-old actor, who has been in the film industry for close to a decade, shared the announcement on her Instagram page. Sanon wrote – “I’ve been in this magical industry living my dreams. I’ve taken baby steps, learnt, evolved & grown into the actor I am today! And now, it’s time to do more, to be more, to learn more, to tell more stories that touch my heart and hopefully yours too. Here’s to constantly evolving and finding the most beautiful version of yourself.”
