In our top story. Actor Ranveer Singh on Thursday, 3rd August, reflected on his career slump which seems to have come to an end with his latest Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. Post-pandemic, Ranveer had delivered three consecutive underperformers at the box office, including cricket drama 83, Jayeshbhai Jordaar and Rohit Shetty’s Cirkus. At a special event, when asked about his last few films, Ranveer shared – “I don’t understand this numbers game at all. I try to remain as detached from it as possible. I want to focus on the craft and do my best to contribute to what is truly a collaborative effort. I have learnt a few things in the recent past but I’m very grateful.”

 

Moving on. After announcing their engagement in May this year, Anurag Kashyap’s daughter Aaliyah Kashyap and fiance Shane Gregoire hosted an engagement party in Mumbai on Thursday, 3rd August. The newly engaged couple Aaliyah and Shane donned resplendent white and silver ensembles for the event. Aaliyah looked stunning in a white lehenga adorned with intricate floral detailing. The couple also posed for photographers. Anurag’s ex-wife, actor Kalki Koechlin attended the engagement party with her daughter Sappho and boyfriend Guy Hershberg. Ace filmmakers Imtiaz Ali and Vikramaditya Motwane also attended. Star kids Suhana Khan, Khushi Kapoor, Palak Tiwari, Alaya F & Ibrahim Ali Khan were also seen arriving at the party.

 

Calling his film The Kashmir Files an “internal truth”, veteran actor Anupam Kher on Thursday, 3rd August, said there should not be any problem in speaking what is right. During a session at the 2023 Jagran Film Festival, the actor was asked to comment on how the 2022 film was unfairly criticised. Kher said – “‘The Kashmir Files’ is our internal truth. I talk candidly and I do that because there should not be any problem in telling the truth. There is no interpretation of truth.” The Vivek Agnihotri directorial depicts the exodus of the Kashmiri Pandit community from Kashmir in the 1990s. It emerged as one of last year’s biggest Hindi hits but was also tagged a “propaganda” film.

 

Meanwhile, as anticipation builds for the release of the much-awaited film Ghoomer, actor Abhishek Bachchan found support and praise from none other than his father, Amitabh Bachchan. The legendary actor took to Twitter to share his review of the movie. Responding to a post by Abhishek’s fan club, Amitabh wrote – “As always, you have excelled in the film, and the film itself is such an entertainer. That’s the very best for it.” Directed by R Balki, Ghoomer is inspired by the remarkable life of Karoly Takacs, the late Hungarian right-hand shooter who overcame a severe injury and went on to win two Olympic gold medals. Saiyami Kher will play the role of a paraplegic cricketer in the film.

 

Actor Adarsh Gourav has been roped in for filmmaker Reema Kagti’s next film, “Superman of Malegaon”. The comedy and drama is based on the life of Sheikh Nasir, who was featured in the 2012 documentary “Supermen of Malegaon”. It is about the real-life story of the residents of Malegaon, who make spoofs of Bollywood films to huge success. Gourav, who shot to fame with “The White Tiger in 2020, said he instantly gave his nod for “Superman of Malegaon” as he found the story intriguing. Adarsh told PTI – ” I have heard about the Malegaon film industry before. They are a different world in itself. It was high time that the industry got the limelight it deserves.”

 

Meanwhile, filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali is a tough taskmaster and many actors who have worked with him often speak about his temperamental nature on the set. In a recent interview with The Lallantop, when Gulshan Devaiah was asked about the same, he shared – ” He is a very passionate man, but sometimes he expresses his passion through anger. I thought he is a perfectionist, and he wouldn’t let me contribute creatively, but that wasn’t the case.” Gulshan had worked with Bhansali on the 2013 hit Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela. Gulshan concluded by saying that he really “enjoyed the whole process” because he made it a point to sit with the director on set and understand his world.

 

Actors Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel are reprising their roles for Gadar 2, the sequel to the 2001 film Gadar: Ek Prem Katha. The makers on Thursday, 3rd August, released the recreated version of “Main Nikla Gaddi Le Ke”, showing how an iconic song can be renewed without taking its essence away. The song is picturised against a celebration where Tara Singh fulfils his son Jeete’s wish of owning a motorcycle. Singer Udit Narayan recreates the magic of the original track. The new song also features the vocals of Udit Narayan’s son, Aditya Narayan. Gadar 2, directed by Anil Sharma, is set to release on August 11 and will be clashing with Akshay Kumar’s OMG 2.

 

Lastly, actor Bhumi Pednekar has made a mark for herself in Bollywood and her choice of films sets her apart from others. Talking about her love for her work and acting, Bhumi told ANI – ” I’m in love with the fact that I’m an actor, spending every second of my life trying to create something that will stay on forever. Acting is a special profession. One, that cannot be taken lightly. So, I give my 200 per cent in any project that I do. I feel I’m responsible for leaving a mark through my movies.” Bhumi was recently seen in Sudhir Mishra’s film Afwaah, which also starred Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Sharib Hashmi and Sumeet Vyas.
