In our top story. Actor Sunny Deol created history with his latest action drama, Gadar 2, as it entered the Rs 400 crore club at the box office. This feat was previously achieved only by Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan, earlier this year. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Gadar 2’s numbers are impressive considering it had a box office face-off with Akshay Kumar’s OMG 2 and Rajinikanth’s Jailer. The Anil Sharma directorial is likely to continue its healthy trend through the week, though it’ll face competition from Ayushmann Khurrana’s Dream Girl 2, which opens on August 25th. Sequel to the 2001 film Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, Gadar 2 also stars Ameesha Patel and Utkarsh Sharma, reprising their roles from the original.

Meanwhile, Gadar 2 director Anil Sharma revealed that he shot the film on a limited budget. In a recent chat with News 18 India, Sharma shared – “People thought Anil Sharma doesn’t make movies anymore, Sunny Deol’s films have not been working, Utkarsh is new. People thought I was making a film for my son. But, Gadar is a brand.” Sharma then revealed that he only got Rs 60 crore to make the film, which made its success even bigger as the film has made more than six times its cost at the domestic box office. He added – “This is a period film and we shot in real locations. We decided to do everything practically in our controlled budget.”

As the anticipation around superstar Shah Rukh Khan‘s next Jawan builds up, the Central Board of Film Certification has passed the film with a ‘U/A’ certificate. Along with the certification, the board has also suggested seven crucial changes in the film. Jawan is scheduled to be released in theatres worldwide on September 7th. Alongside Shah Rukh Khan, the film stars Nayanthara as the female lead, making her Hindi film debut, Vijay Sethupathi, Priyamani and Sanya Malhotra, among others. Deepika Padukone will be making a cameo appearance in the film, directed by Atlee. Jawan will be SRK’s second film after Pathaan this year, which also received a ‘U/A’ certificate from the CBFC.

Moving on. Streaming platform ZEE5 on Wednesday, 23rd August announced that Haddi, starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui, will premiere on its platform on September 7th. The revenge drama is directed by first-time filmmaker Akshat Ajay Sharma, who has also co-written the film with Adamya Bhalla. Set against the backdrop of the NCR, the film delves into the life of Haddi, a transgender, portrayed by Siddiqui, who comes from Allahabad to Delhi to join a gang of transgenders. He makes it to the top to avenge his family, who was wronged by a powerful gangster-turned-politician. The film also features filmmaker-actor Anurag Kashyap in a pivotal role. Ila Arun, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub and Saharsh Shukla also star in the film.

Kriti Sanon is all set to don two caps as the first film from her production house Blue Butterfly Films, Do Patti goes on the floors. Kriti will also be starring in the film, alongside Kajol. Kriti shared photos and her feelings on the first day of the shoot for Do Patti. In the photos, Kriti can be seen in her vanity van, reading the script of her maiden project. The motivating words on her T-shirt read – “Time to reinvent yourself.” Sharing the post, Kriti wrote – “Day 1 of shoot for me on Do Patti. Time to Reinvent. Wearing 2 caps this time…Actor-Producer. Lots of Blue Butterflies dancing in my stomach as i start this very special journey.”

Meanwhile, Ayushmann Khurrana is gearing up for the release of Dream Girl 2, the sequel to his 2019 hit film Dream Girl. The actor plays a man and a woman in the Raaj Shaandilyaa directorial. The film’s first instalment turned out to be one of the biggest box-office successes in Ayushmann’s career and he is hoping to recreate that success. In a new interview with indianexpress.com, Ayushmann shared – “It is good to be nervous, it feels like your 10th board exams results are coming out, it is that kind of feeling. But at the same time, this has been my most massy film so I am most excited about this one as a theatrical. It is a fun film.”

Actor Pankaj Tripathi has just delivered the biggest hit of his career with OMG 2. But says he is constantly amused by how a section of people are obsessed with a film’s collections. In an interview with indianexpress.com, when asked how he looks at the film’s spectacular box office run, Tripathi said – “I understand the importance of numbers. When a film works, the producers benefit, our value increases and we all will benefit. But what baffles me are the arguments that happen on Twitter. I’m like who are these people more concerned about a film’s collection than their lives?” Despite the clash with Gadar 2, OMG 2 has minted an impressive Rs 117 crore so far.

Lastly, Actor Paresh Rawal recently spoke about his upcoming film Hera Pheri 3. In an interview with News18, Paresh revealed that though at one point, Kartik Aaryan was part of the film, he wasn’t playing Raju, a character played by Akshay Kumar in the first 2 films. The actor shared – “Kartik’s role was different and had a different kind of energy than Raju. The premise of his character was different. One shouldn’t be afraid of backlashes. And once people watch a film, they forget all the about it.” Kartik had come on board to star in Hera Pheri 3. But the news wasn’t met with a good response as fans of the franchise were disappointed with the casting change.
