Let’s begin with our top story. After nearly a month in theatres, Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan still is witnessing extraordinary box-office success. The film has crossed the coveted Rs 1000 crore mark worldwide and is slowly inching towards becoming the top Hindi-language film domestically. Pathaan has been mostly unaffected by new releases this week, Kartik Aaryan’s Shehzada and Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Pathaan is the fifth Indian film to have crossed the Rs 1000 cr mark worldwide after Dangal, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, KGF 2 and RRR. It is to be noted that Pathaan has achieved the feat without being released in China.

 

Moving on. Bollywood stars Abhishek Bachchan and Vicky Kaushal will host the 2023 edition of the IIFA Weekend and Awards, the International Indian Film Academy announced on Tuesday, 21st February. The International Indian Film Academy Awards return to Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, for the second consecutive year and will be held from May 26 and 27. In a statement, Bachchan said he was ecstatic to host IIFA Awards. He added – “IIFA is like family to me and it gives me immense pleasure to celebrate the very best of the extraordinary range that Indian cinema has to offer.” Kaushal said he was looking forward to sharing the IIFA stage with Bachchan.

 

The reworked version of the song ‘Raanjha’, which was played at Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani’s wedding, was released online on Tuesday, 21st February. In an earlier clip shared on social media, the song played as Kiara entered the venue and walked towards Sidharth. The couple got married at the Suryagarh Palace in Jaisalmer. The extended version of the song was released with a caption on YouTube that read, “From the moment they were reel-life lovebirds on Shershaah, Kiara and Siddharth redefined chemistry. From that to making Ranjha their wedding song, the couple has truly shown what “Ranjha” stands for.”The new version of the song has been composed by Jasleen Royal, The Wedding Filmer, Kingshuk Chakravarty and Mayank Choudhary.

 

Meanwhile, Actor Alia Bhatt took to Instagram on Tuesday, 21st February and was quite furious at the ‘invasion of privacy’ after a few photographers clicked her photos while she was inside her house. The actor tagged the Mumbai Police and wrote that she felt like she was being watched. That is when she realised that two photographers were clicking her from the top of a neighbouring building. Alia wrote, “Are you kidding me? I was at my house, having a perfectly normal afternoon, sitting in my living room. In what world is this okay and is this allowed? There’s a line that you must not cross. It is safe to say that all lines were crossed today.”

 

Singer Sonu Nigam was manhandled by a man on Monday, 20th February after his performance at a music festival in Chembur, Mumbai. Along with the singer, his bodyguard and a member of his team were also injured in a scuffle that happened when Sonu was getting off the stage. It is being reported that the man who pushed Sonu’s bodyguard and his team member is Swapnil Phaterpekar, the son of an MLA. A video of the scuffle was shared on social media. After the incident, Sonu spoke to reporters and said that all of it happened only because the man wanted a selfie with him. Sonu Nigam has complained to Chembur police station.

 

Zeenat Aman’s recent Instagram debut has been a deep dive into nostalgia. The veteran actor has been sharing insights about her life and career much to fans’ delight. On Tuesday, 21st February, Zeenat Aman took to Instagram and posted an old Taj Mahal Tea ad which she had shot when she was just a 16-year-old girl. The actor recalled how the advertisement was shot at the Taj Mahal, and how she preserved the earrings she wore then. In the post, Zeenat also quipped that her advertisement, however, was eclipsed by tabla maestro Zakir Hussain’s memorable “Waah Taj” campaign.

 

Meanwhile, A High Court in Bangladesh has issued an order directing the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Authority to stop the promotion and streaming of Hansal Mehta’s Faraaz in the country, as per a report by the Bangladesh publication Kaler Kantho. The film is based on the attack on Holy Artisan Bakery in Dhaka that took place in 2016. As per the report, the double bench of Justice Md Khasruzzaman and Justice Md Iqbal Kabir issued the order after watching the movie. The report states that Ruba Ahmed, the mother of Abinta Kabir, was against the production and screening of the film. Abinta was one of the 22 victims who lost their lives during the attack.

 

Lastly, Ace filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali who has directed films inspired by historical events like Padmavat and Bajirao Mastani, among others, recently spoke about how he goes about making period dramas and does his research when he is “working on a history in our country.” Bhansali was at an event where he recently launched the teaser of his upcoming web series Heeramandi starring Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sharmin Segal and Sanjeeda Shaikh. Bhansali also discussed how, while making films inspired by history, one needs to “be a little careful” and “get the facts right.” The filmmaker then elaborated on how he first shoots a music piece and then begins making the film.
