Let’s begin with our top story. Salman Khan’s Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan is expected to make between Rs 15 crore-Rs 20 crores on its first day of release, which pales in comparison to the massive numbers that the star is used to, especially for his Eid releases. But, if these predictions prove to be true, the film’s opening day numbers will fall in the same range as Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor. According to Bollywood Hungama, Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan has sold around 14000 advance tickets for day one at the three national multiplex chains, considering that it has been marketed as a mass entertainer.
Moving on. The trailer of late actor Irrfan Khan’s The Song of Scorpions was unveiled on Wednesday, 19th April. Directed by Anup Singh, the film also stars veteran actress Waheeda Rehman and Golshifteh Farahani in important roles. The Song of Scorpions had its world premiere at the 70th Locarno Film Festival in Locarno, Switzerland on August 9, 2017. The film’s trailer is a deep dive into the enchanting world of the Rajasthan-set drama, which follows the story of Nooran, a fiercely independent tribal woman, who learns the ancient healing art of scorpion singing. The film is set to hit the theatres on April 28 ahead of the beloved actor’s third death anniversary.
The trailer of Sudhir Mishra’s directorial Afwaah is out and it takes the audience into the world of politics and intrigue created by the filmmaker. The film starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Bhumi Pednekar and Sumeet Vyas shows how rumours can land people in life-threatening situations. The political thriller has been produced by Anubhav Sinha. The trailer shows Sumeet as a politician who aspires to be in high office. His plans go awry when his fiancee, played by Bhumi, runs away. She meets Nawazuddin during her escape and rumours about them eloping spiral. An angry Sumeet sets on their chase to his political career.
Meanwhile, Actor Sara Ali Khan has wrapped the Delhi schedule for her film Murder Mubarak and posted pictures marking the occasion. She also wrote an emotional note along with the photos. Sara shared several pictures from the wrap party and from her visits to Bangla Sahib Gurudwara and India Gate. The note read, “That’s a Delhi Schedule Wrap! And in the midst of that purity, love and honesty we’ll make lifelong memories and hopefully capture some of it on celluloid.” Murder Mubarak, directed by Homi Adajania, also stars Karisma Kapoor, Sanjay Kapoor, Pankaj Tripathi, Vijay Verma and Dimple Kapadia. Karisma too posted pictures from the Delhi wrap party and wrote, “Wrap Mubarak. What an incredible cast and crew to work with.”
Alaya F, who is all set to star in the thriller U-Turn, says there’s no race to be No 1 among the younger generation of actors. Alaya told The Indian Express – “The types of roles and opportunities today are wide. Also, everyone has a distinct identity, and no one needs to clover or fight anymore. There are enough movies and shows. With the age of social media, the whole mystery is not there anymore. We are just people out there, who are doing good work, and hoping to make the most of every role and opportunity.” The actor, however, shared that she follows her contemporaries like Sara Ali Khan, Janhvi Kapoor, or Ananya Panday’s work, as that is an ‘education’ for her.
Meanwhile, Vikrant Massey, who was last seen in Gaslight with Sara Ali Khan, recently opened up about the notion that male actors are paid more than female actors in the film industry. The actor said that while this is true in the “majority of cases, ” the reverse is true in his case. Vikrant told ETimes – “Most of my female co-stars have been paid more than me but I’ve never made a fuss of it because I understand the practicality of it. My big body of work does not give me as much money as a Deepika Padukone of course. Or even fighting for credit in a film like Ginny Weds Sunny. You see it the way you want to see it.”
Gajraj Rao stepped into the spotlight after he appeared in the film Badhaai Ho but the veteran actor has been a part of the film industry since Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen where he played a small role. Although Gajraj appeared in films like Black Friday, Dil Se.., and Black Friday Talvar, which were all directed by ace filmmakers, he never chased movies. Talking to Pinkvilla, he said, “It wasn’t like I doubted my talent or my acting abilities. I struggled to get respect. If I felt disrespected anywhere or felt that people were behaving badly with me, then I wouldn’t work with those people.”
Lastly, Amol Palekar was known as the relatable boy next door in the 1970s. But before he tasted massive success in the movies, Amol was offered the lead role in Basu Chatterjee’s 1972 film Piya Ka Ghar. Amol, in a recent interview, recalled that Chatterjee brought the film to him but he was soon replaced as Basu found him “arrogant”. The movie, produced by Rajshri Productions, was headed by Tarachand Barjatya in those days. He recalled, “Basu da asked me to go and meet Tarachand Barjatya. I said, ‘No, I won’t go.’ He was surprised and asked why. I said the simple reason is that if you have selected me for a role, you must take me and introduce me to him.”
