In our top story. The highly-anticipated mythological epic film Adipurush, directed by Om Raut, was released in theatres on June 16. Starring Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, and Saif Ali Khan, the movie had an impressive start at the box office, earning Rs 140 crore worldwide on its opening day. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film’s collection now stands at Rs 240 crore globally. Adipurush has faced a lot of criticism and trolling since its release, particularly for its visual effects and dialogues. However, despite the mixed reviews, the movie has still performed well at the box office. With a reported budget of Rs 500 crore, the movie also stars Sunny Singh and Devdatta Nage in prominent roles.
Meanwhile, the screening of all Hindi movies will be banned in Nepal’s capital Kathmandu from today, over the “objectionable” words and depiction of Sita in the mythological epic film Adipurush, a top city official announced on Sunday, 18th June. Kathmandu Mayor Balendra Shah defended the ban on all Hindi films, saying the screening of the movie Adipurush without having one of its dialogues removed will cause “irreparable damage”. Shah said in his Facebook post – “We have already issued notice to remove the objectionable portion of the dialogue that ‘Sita is India’s daughter’ from the movie within three days.” Shah wrote that if they allow the screening of the movie, it would “establish a distorted fact”.
Sunny Deol’s son Karan Deol married his girlfriend Drisha Acharya on Sunday, 18th June. While the couple got married at Taj Lands End in Mumbai in the presence of family members and close friends, the Deol family hosted a wedding reception in the evening for their industry friends. Sunny and his younger son Rajveer Deol were the first ones to reach the venue. The duo was also seen distributing sweets to the media. Karan’s grandfather Dharmendra and uncle Bobby Deol arrived next. Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Prem Chopra, Raj Babbar, Shatrughan Sinha, Anupam Kher, Suniel Shetty, Abhay Deol, and Subhash Ghai among others attended the party.
Moving on. Bollywood actor Kiara Advani has joined the cast of the sequel of the blockbuster actioner War. She will be seen alongside Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR in the movie which will be directed by Ayan Mukerji. The film is expected to go on floors by the end of this year. A trade source confirmed the news saying, “Kiara fits the bill to the T as far as YRF Spy Universe is concerned. Kiara is right now at the top of her game and Aditya Chopra taking her for War 2 loudly signifies that.” The source added, “Chopra is going all out to make this film the slickest and the coolest action entertainer that this country has ever seen.”
The much-anticipated trailer of Zoya Akhtar’s The Archies dropped on 18th June, Sunday. The film, set in the fictional hillside town of Riverdale in the year 1964, feels both familiar and fresh. From Rock n’ Roll music, to friendship, love, and heartbreak, The Archies promises an emotional and energetic experience. The film has been in the news ever since it was announced, as it marks the debut of star kids – Suhana Khan, Shah Rukh Khan’s daughter, Khushi Kapoor, Sridevi’s daughter, and Agastya Nanda, Amitabh Bachchan’s grandson. The young cast, also including Mihir Ahuja, Dot., Vedang Raina and Yuvraj Menda, look promising as they go through the many emotions of young adulthood.
Meanwhile, the hit web show Dahaad goes beyond telling a woman-centric story. Sonakshi Sinha‘s character Anjali Bhaati, a sub-inspector in Rajasthan’s Mandawa police station, articulates her rage and reactions against patriarchal ways but also stands equal among her male colleagues notwithstanding their rank. There is a noticeable shift in the actor’s approach in Dahaad, which was released on Prime Video last month and marked Sinha’s debut as a streamer. Sonakshi in an interview with The Indian Express, said – “I only focus on doing my job instead of worrying about the audience’s reaction. I look at every new project as my first. That has kept me going. Today, great content is created and good parts are written for women.”
Actor and author Twinkle Khanna took to Instagram and shared a picture with her husband and actor Akshay Kumar on the occasion of Father’s Day. In her post, she wrote, “Some of the reasons for marrying Mr K revolved around knowing he would be a great father after watching him deal with his family, the other was the hope that my future children inherit some of his fine genes. And looking at him in his fifties, I would say that his children are lucky if they have inherited half of their genetic material from him. Happy Father’s Day.” To this, Akshay replied, “Love you for this. Since you’ve assigned me to the genetic department, I trust you with the intellect.”
Lastly, Actor Kangana Ranaut, who is currently busy promoting her upcoming production Tiku Weds Sheru talked about her marriage plans. Talking exclusively to ANI, Kangana said “There’s a time for everything and if that time has to come in my life then it will come. I do want to get married and have my own family but, at the right time it will happen.” Helmed by Sai Kabir Srivastav, the film stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Avneet Kaur in the lead roles and is all set to stream on the OTT platform Amazon Prime Video from June 23.
