In our top story. After a thunderous opening of Rs 40.10 crore at the box office on its opening day, Sunny Deol-starrer Gadar 2 maintained its stronghold at the box office as the film earned a massive Rs 43 crore nett at the box office over the weekend. As per industry tracker Sacnilk, this takes the film’s net domestic collection to a whooping Rs 83.10 crore. In 2023, not many films have been able to achieve this kind of numbers during their opening weekend. The only film that enjoyed a bigger opening than Gadar 2 was Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Pathaan, which earned Rs 57 crore.

Meanwhile, after opening with an average of Rs 10.26 crore, Akshay Kumar’s OMG 2 saw a jump over the weekend. As per industry tracker Sacnilk, the film collected Rs 14.5 crore. This brings the nett collection to Rs 24.76 crore. The sequel was released alongside Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2, creating a storm at the box office. However, positive reviews and word of mouth seem to be helping OMG 2. Apart from Gadar 2, OMG 2 also faces tough competition from Rajinikanth’s Jailer and Chiranjeevi’s Bholaa Shankar. Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani also occupies some shows as it entered its third week.

OMG 2 is gaining applause from audiences for conveying an important message. Actor Yami Gautam, who portrays a lawyer in the film, is also earning high praise for her role. In her recent Twitter post, Yami responded to a fan’s compliments, sharing her thoughts on the non-linear nature of success in the film industry. Yami wrote – “Some people find success overnight and some have to prove themselves persistently for years. Some people are great at marketing their talent or the lack of it. Some only want their talent to speak. As an actor, I just know how to act and work exceptionally hard on identifying good scripts and versatile characters. That’s my talent.”

Moving on. After the electrifying song “Zinda Banda”, Jawan’s next song is a romantic ballad featuring lead stars Shah Rukh Khan and Nayanthara. While the star posted a short teaser earlier, he shared a longer teaser of the song on Sunday, 13th August. This one has SRK and Nayanthara dancing at a crosswalk. Missed receiving the D.Litt in person, down with the worst viral. But to have my father receive this honour on my behalf, this is everything! Thank you, Baba, you stood tall & proud!”

Lastly, actor-turned-politician Jaya Prada has been sentenced to six months in jail and fined Rs 5,000 for a case dating back several years. According to a report by India Today, Jayaprada’s brother Raja Babu and her business colleague Ram Kumar were also held guilty.
