Moving on. Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor-starrer Bawaal is set to release on Amazon Prime Video on July 21. The film, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, is made on a huge scale so it was only natural for cinemagoers to wonder as to why it was being released on an OTT platform. When asked about the same, Varun told Bollywood Hungama – “Theatres are not going anywhere. They are here to stay. The collective experience of watching a film and celebrating is still there and we love it. But, in today’s economic climate, you cannot make a film without an OTT partner. Because 70 per cent of your capital to make a film is coming from there.”
Actor Hrithik Roshan has been known for his Greek god looks and flawless dance moves. However, it was films like Super 30 that gave Hrithik a chance to get out of his quintessential action-hero avatar. Hrithik had to learn a Bhojpuri accent for the film. Anand Kumar, the teacher on whose life Super 30 was inspired, taught the actor the same. As Super 30 completed 4 years of release on Wednesday, 12th July, Hrithik took to Instagram to express his feelings. The actor shared multiple photos from the film and wrote, “Some films leave a deep imprint as an actor and a collaborator. Super 30 for me is an experience lived, one I will forever cherish.”
Meanwhile, the sports drama Bhaag Milkha Bhaag ushered in a new era of Bollywood biopics and established Farhan Akhtar as a leading man. The movie turned a decade on Wednesday, 12th July. In his autobiography, The Stranger in the Mirror, director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra revealed as acclaimed as Farhan’s performance was, he wasn’t the first choice for the role. He wrote – “I narrated the story to Hrithik Roshan, whom I have always seen as a very intense actor.” Next, he approached Aamir Khan, who also turned the film down. The director then auditioned actors for the role and was delighted to discover that Ranveer Singh was perfect for it, but passed.
Actor Aditya Roy Kapur is currently basking in the success of his web show, The Night Manager 2. In a new interview with indianexpress.com, the actor opened up about the success of the show and not wanting to do only heavy-duty actioners. He shared – “It feels great because every time you put so much effort into something like we did on this one, this is the result. So it feels good that people have given us that love. Having said that, my recent projects have been different from one another. It is not that I just want to do thrillers and action– that’s not the case. But yes, I would love to do another romantic film soon.”
Meanwhile, actor Gulshan Devaiah on Wednesday, 12th July, shared a heartwarming anecdote about his manager, Richa Bhoyar. In a Twitter post, Gulshan wrote – “The young lady in the picture is Richa Bhoyar. In 2015, she was 20-something years old, in college, She saw the poster of Hunter one day & told her friends that they should go watch it in the theatre. She & her friends had never heard of me before that day, yet she convinced them to buy tickets to watch my film. Cut to …present day, Richa, now part of Bling Entertainment, is my manager. She has been my manager, cheerleader, confidant & friend for about 2 years now. The “power of attraction” she says.”
Actor Kangana Ranaut, who is quite active on social media, took a dig at the so-called ‘movie mafia’ again on Wednesday, 12th July. She posted a clip from an episode of Koffee with Karan, in which host Karan Johar interacted with Sonam Kapoor and Deepika Padukone. Karan asks Sonam, “If you have the power to give celebrities these aspects who would you give that to – the ability to speak English fluently.” A hesitant Sonam replied, “Kangana has a great fashion sense, but…” Karan completed her answer, “Questionable English”. Sharing the clip on her Instagram, Kangana wrote, “What I learned from years of fights with the film mafia is that no outsider will ever be mocked for not speaking English.”
Lastly, Actor Aanjjan Srivastav, who first gained fame with Wagle Ki Duniya, worked as a banker while starring in films and shows. During the filming of Amitabh Bachchan’s Shahenshah, Aanjjan was asked by his bank’s chairman to get an appointment with Big B. Aanjjan, in a chat with Rajshri Unplugged, recalled that meeting and said that Bachchan put in a good word for him that made his life easier at the bank.
