Everything Harry has said about the royal family in memoir interviews

Prince Harry’s new memoir Spare will be published on January 10 – just over a month after the Netflix documentary on him and his wife Meghan Markle was released amid controversy.

The “personal and emotional” book, written by Pulitzer Prize winner JR Moehringer, reportedly includes claims that Prince William physically assaulted Harry at his London home during a row over the Duchess of Sussex in 2019.

Harry also reportedly wrote that King Charles asked his sons “not to make my last years a misery” during a conversation that took place after Prince Philip’s funeral in March 2021.

The 38-year-old recently met with ITV’s Tom Bradby and CNN’s Anderson Cooper to promote the memoir in separate interviews in the UK and the US respectively.

During the interviews, Harry addressed his future as a working royal, wanting to reconcile with his father and brother, and accusations that he was breaching his family’s privacy after “standing up” to intrusions into his own life.

Of his discord with the royal family

“It was never meant to be.”

Harry appeared to talk about his strained relationship with the royal family in a chat with ITV’s Tom Bradby, in a teaser for Harry: The interview.

“It was never meant to be,” he told Bradby in a 20-second teaser released on January 3.

He continued: “The family motto is ‘Never complain, never explain’, but that’s just a motto.”

During the teaser for Harry’s interview with Bradby, he confirmed that he still believes in the monarchy. When asked by the ITV presenter if Harry believed it would “play a part in his future”, he replied: “I don’t know.”

Separately, when CNN’s Cooper asked him if Harry could see a day “when you’re back as a regular member of the royal family,” he said, “No.”
