Love Aaj Kal

Imtiaz Ali creates magic, exploring nuances of love through generations. This movie explores the lives of individuals belonging to two different generations, going through relationships and heartbreaks, giving an insight into, if love has really changed over time. With two movies, one released fairly recently in 2020 starring Sara Ali Khan, Kartik Aaryan, Randeep Hooda, and the other in 2009 starring Deepika Padukone, Saif Ali Khan, and veteran actor Rishi Kapoor, both these movies went on to become sleeper hits, loved widely by the audience. The second one however could not match up to the charm of the first one.

Atrangi Re

 Helmed by Aanand L Rai, this movie stars Sara Ali Khan, Dhanush, and Akshay Kumar in pivotal roles. A fantasy romantic drama, this movie is a new take on relationships and serious issues like childhood trauma and mental illness. This story revolves around the love triangle between Rinku (Khan), a magician named Sajjad ( Akshay Kumar), and Vishu (Dhanush). Released in 2021, this movie is available to watch on Disney+Hotstar. Atrangi Re makes an attempt to the portray complexities of relationships in sensitive circumstances.

Shershaah

An action movie at its core, this movie is based on the life of Vikram Batra, a heroic soldier of the Indian Army killed in the Kargil war. This movie also provides an insight into the love story of Vikram and Dimple Cheema. This love story tugged at the hearts of millions, ever since the movie was released. Redefining the meaning of true love, in these times of modern dating, Vikram Batra portrayed by Siddarth Malhotra and Kiara Advani playing Dimple Cheema have certainly set the bar high when it comes to love. This is definitely a must-watch, to celebrate the life of this hero and his love story with Dimple. Shershaah is available to watch on Netflix.

Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui

Available to watch on Netflix this movie was released in December 2021. Starring Vaani Kapoor and Ayyushman Khurrana in pivotal roles, this movie is helmed by Abhishek Kapoor. It is a romantic comedy that talks about the LGBTQIA community and the realities of being from the transgender community in Indian society. This movie explores the life of trans people and their struggle for acceptance and respect in all walks of life, from personal relationships to professional lives and their stand in society. The movie tried to bring one section of our society into limelight but unfortunately they had a straight woman play the role of a trans woman.

Dil Bechara

This movie marks Sushant Singh Rajput’s last venture in Bollywood before his death and is special for so many reasons. This romantic drama is based on a John Green novel The Fault In Our Stars also previously adapted into a movie in English of the same name. This movie also marks the directorial debut of Mukesh Chabbra and Sanjana Sanghi’s debut as a lead. This movie might leave you feeling bittersweet, as this follows the tragic love story of two terminally ill teenagers, fighting to survive making the best of the days they are gifted together. This movie premiered on Disney+Hotstar and is available to watch on the platform.

The Sky Is Pink

This is a biographical rom-com directed by Shonali Bose, available to watch on Netflix. The Sky Is Pink follows the life of Aisha Chaudhary, based on her book My Little Epiphanies. This film stars Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Farhan Akhtar, Zaira Wasim, and Rohit Suresh Saraf. Zaira Wasim retired from Bollywood post the release of this movie. This movie follows the story of Aisha Chaudhary, who suffered from severe combined immunodeficiency and pulmonary fibrosis, in a first-person narrative form, telling the audience about her parents Aditi and Niren’s story as they navigate their marriage while also dealing with their daughter’s terminal illness. This movie also features the track Memba- a song created by her brother Ishaan as a tribute to his little sister.

Sir

Sir- Is Love Enough? features Tillotama Shome and Vivek Gomber was initially released at the Cannes Film Festival in 2018. This film was theatrically released in India on 13 November 2020. This movie follows a relationship between the US-returned Gomber and his young widowed maid Shome. And how hard it is in our society to break these existing class barriers. 

Qarib Qarib Singlle

It is a 2017 rom-com helmed by Tanuja Chandra, starring Irrfan Khan and  Parvathy Thiruvothu in the lead roles. The film follows the story of widow Jaya Shashidharan meets Yogi, on an online dating site called abtaksinglle.com. They both fall in love while journeying around the country to meet Yogi’s three ex-girlfriends. This movie explores the concept of falling in love in any age and finding companionship. This movie is available to watch on Netflix.
