In PS Mithran’s spy action thriller Sardar, starring Karthi in the lead, Chunky Panday plays a suave, super-rich businessman. To establish the character’s persona, the team has shot his solo portions in Azerbaijan and Georgia.

The Bollywood actor, who will be making his Kollywood debut with this film, shared pictures from the location on his social media handle and wrote, “Amazing Azerbaijan and Baku an architectural delight. Had a blast with the Film Crew of #Sardar, my first Tamil Film (sic).”

Giving us details, Lakshman, who’s backing the film, says, “Chunky Panday is the antagonist, and we wanted to show that he is a man of power and money. So, we decided to shoot in live locations because it’s difficult to achieve that class and richness when you film on sets. We chose Azerbaijan and Georgia for their beautiful, classy buildings. In Baku, we shot in the parliament building and also at the Congress Convention Centre. Azerbaijan is a very shoot-friendly country, and though there were several steps to obtain permission, it was a smooth process. We also filmed at this huge hydro dam near Tbilisi in Georgia. We shot for about 10 days in May, and it cost us about Rs 23-24 lakh each day!”

Is it a wrap for Chunky’s portion then? “No, he has more sequences to shoot. The initial idea was to finish combination scenes first and then shoot his solo portions. But since we had a few days with us in May, as Karthi had gone on a personal trip, we decided to shoot with Chunky. The plan is to establish his world in a grand manner,” says Lakshman, who informs that the team has started the next schedule already.
