New Tamil Movie Ponyyin Selvan lived up to expectations in more ways than one Ranking. The Chiyan Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha Krishnan, Cards and Jayam Ravi the title role took the third best opening of all Tamil movie this year, after Beast and Valimaiand in front of Vikram, the biggest Tamil hit of the year.

Ponniyin Selvan has collected Rs 26 crore gross on day 1 in Tamil Nadu, slightly less than Valimai which has collected Rs 28 crore gross on day 1 in the state. Beast is way ahead with the all-time Tamil Nadu record of ₹ 36 crore opening day gross. Mani Ratnam directed PS1 also performed decently in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana in its Kannada and Telugu versions to reach a total of ₹ 44 crore Day 1 gross across India. Surprisingly, only the Hindi dubbed version is disappointing which clearly shows that Tamil movies they don’t crack pan-India code like their Telugu counterparts.

Ponniyin Selvan box office collection day 1 overseas, worldwide
Overseas, the Chiyaan Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha Krishnan, Karthi, Jayam Ravi starrer added another ₹34 crore gross to its box office to make it the biggest Tamil movie an all-time worldwide opener with a gross of ₹78 crore. It goes without saying that Ponniyin Selvan checkout day 1 collection is gorgeous whichever way you look at it and puts the film firmly on track to be a huge hit in the long run if it holds up well for the rest of its first week.
