The annual Pennsylvania Christmas and Gift Show brought out the puparazzi this year to kick off the howl-idays introducing their brand new dog pageant, the “Deck the Paws” fashion show.
The Deck the Paws event took place early Saturday, Dec. 3, offering several cute and adoptable dogs from the Canine Rescue of Central Pa.. These dogs had a chance to hit the runway on the entertainment stage inside the Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg.
Canine Rescue is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to try and provide for abandoned dogs in need of assistance in helpless situations.
Jenna Naffin, show manager of event, owns two dogs she adopted 10 years ago. She reached out to the dog rescue unit to be part of this year’s show for the first time.
“This is just really important because these dogs need homes and they need to meet the right people, so we were happy to make the connection here,” Naffin said.
According to Heather DeChamplain, president of Canine Rescue of Central Pa., the event was extra special, allowing another way for the dogs to be shown to the public and maybe adopted from the event.
“There’s no prize for the winner of the fashion show. … The prize for them actually is to come out and meet people,” DeChamplain said. “They spend a lot of time in the kennel, same four walls, so when they come out its exciting for them.”
Four dogs from the rescue participated in today’s show: Peyton, a collie & shepherd mix; Hazel and Bowser, both pit bull terrier mix; and Jax, a Weimaraner mix.
The four adoptable canines got to show off their special tricks and ugly sweaters in front of several potential adopters. Dogs who have not been adopted today can be found online.
