The Only Way Is Essex star Pete Wicks is one of 14 celebrities enduring the brutal temperatures of the Jordan dessert as he partakes in this year’s Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins.

Love Island winner Amber Gill, former EastEnders actress Maisie Smith, and Strictly Come Dancing’s AJ Pritchard are among the names competing this year.

AJ’s brother Curtis has also signed up for the new series, as well as footballer Ashley Cain and former Olympic sprinter Dwayne Chambers.

Pete, 33, is known for his stint on Towie, after joining in 2015 and becoming a series regular from season 15.

Along the way, his relationship with Megan McKenna took the limelight as the pair’s drama unfolded on screen, until their split in 2017.

In 2019, he signed up to Channel 4’s Celebs Go Dating, where he starred alongside Megan and Celebrity SAS alum Kerry Katona.

The year before, he partook in Celebrity Island with Bear Grylls, and has also starred on Celebrity MasterChef in 2020 and The Celebrity Circle in 2021.

Speaking about his stint on SAS, ahead of the series airing tonight, Pete revealed: ‘I’ve done TV for eight years and there have only ever been two shows that I really wanted to do. One was Bear Grylls, which I did.

‘And the other one was SAS: Who Dares Wins, purely because it’s something that regardless of it being a TV show I’d wanted to do anyway because when would you get an opportunity to do something like that?

‘It’s just so different to anything I’ve done before. I’m fortunate to have a very pampered life, so to get the chance to test what you’re truly made of was an opportunity I just couldn’t turn down.’

Pete joins his Towie co-star Ferne McCann and former Olympic athlete Fatima Whitbread, who made her name in the javelin events.

Celebrity SAS was first broadcast in the spring of 2019, with former Chelsea and Manchester City footballer Wayne Bridge emerging victorious.

Paralympic athlete Lauren Steadman and DJ Locksmith of dance group Rudimental both took the crown on the show in 2020.

And last year there were three winners: X Factor winner Alexandra Burke, Paralympic athlete Aled Davies, and TV personality Wes Nelson.

Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins returns to Channel 4 tonight, Sunday, 4 September at 9pm.
