The Brahmastra storm is coming and it seems unstoppable. The movie is all set to hit the theaters worldwide on September 9 and with this kind of advance booking, the box office collection will be huge. According to the latest figures, Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt are off to a great start with around 1 lakh tickets already sold for the first day and around 2 lakh for the first weekend. That number will only grow in the coming days as we get closer to launch. Interestingly, it has already beaten SS Rajamouli directed RRR starring Ram Charan and Jr. NTR. Not only that, it is now trailing only Yash’s KGF 2 when it comes to advance booking numbers.
And now, to ensure that the first day and first weekend collections of the film are as good as possible, the makers of the film Star India have approached the Delhi High Court with a plea to prevent copyright infringement. As our readers already know, a new trend is for all new and big movies and web series to leak online within hours of their release. It happened to stop 18 websites from illegally streaming ‘Brahmastra Part One: Shiva’, a film starring Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt in titular roles, after settling a copyright infringement case filed by Star India.
In its suit, Star India said that the theatrical release of any film is extremely important as the commercial value of the film depends on the popularity and success it achieves in the first few days of release. He also pointed out that there are “rogue websites” that pirate copies of the film and illegally leak the entire film online for their own gain. It says that these sites make the movies available for free in high quality to watch and download until the movie hits theaters.
In the order, Justice Jyoti Singh observed that the exclusive right of the plaintiff (Star India) is under the provisions of the Copyright Act. In addition, the order prohibits about 18 of such fraudulent sites from hosting, streaming, retransmitting, displaying, making available for viewing and downloading, providing access to and/or communicating to the public, displaying, uploading, modifying, publishing, updating and/or sharing their websites via the Internet or other platform.
The order also requires the Ministry of Telecommunications and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to work in sync with the various ISPs and block access to these fraudulent websites. With this, the possibility of Brahmastra getting leaked online is prevented and forever. Online piracy is an offense under the Copyright Act 1957 and we urge our readers to watch content only in cinemas or authorized OTT platforms.
