Bloody Daddy Movie Review: Shahid Kapoor’s Drug Drama Is High On Performance But Marred By Predictable Storyline

Bloody Daddy Movie Review: Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, Bloody Daddy is a drug drama featuring Shahid Kapoor as an NCB officer. The story revolves around Kapoor’s character and his struggle to rescue his son after he is kidnapped by drug lord Ronit Roy. Although the film offers an engaging plot, it can be predictable at times. The high point of the movie is Kapoor’s performance, as he demonstrates his versatility as an actor.

Bloody Daddy Movie Review: Shahid Kapoor ’s new outing Bloody Daddy is the remake of a French movie, Nuit Blanche aka Sleepless Night (2011). For the unversed, the French film has already been remade in Tamil as Thoongaa Vanam (2015), starring Kamal Haasan in the lead role. Coming back to Bloody Daddy, the film is a drug drama that happens in Gurugram after COVID-19’s second wave in India. Shahid Kapoor tries hard to break the drug racket but gets trapped in an unusual situation that could take a toll on his relationship with his son.

Bloody Daddy Movie Review: Plot

Bloody Daddy begins with a chase sequence in the Connaught Palace area of New Delhi between an NCB officer named Sumair (Shahid Kapoor) and a couple of drug peddlers. He chases them and recovers a bag of cocaine worth Rs 50 crore with 3 kg extra. On the other hand, Sumair is a divorcee and the father of a 13-year-old son, Atharv. His son feels that his father doesn’t give him enough time, hence, he wants to spend time with his mother and her boyfriend. In the hotel, Atharv gets kidnapped by Sikander ( Ronit Roy ), who is the main operator in drug mafia.

Sikander blackmails Sumair and asks him to return his substances in exchange for his son. Sumair gets scared, and for his son, he goes to Sikander’s 7-star hotel in Gurugram to hand over his drugs. Notably, Sumair is clueless about his co-employees, Aditi (Diana Penty) and Sameer (Rajeev Khandelwal), following him. Aditi hides a bag of drugs, because of which Sumair panics. Then he tries different tricks to fool the drug mafia. Will he be able to release his son from the drug mafia, burst the racket, or succumb to their demands? That is what you will get to know by the end of Bloody Daddy.

Bloody Daddy Movie Review: Direction, Story, Screenplay, Cinematography And Dialogues

Bloody Daddy has been directed by Ali Abbas Zafar , who is known for delivering films such as Tiger Zinda Hai, Sultan, and so on. I have to say that Ali has not left any stone unturned to make the Shahid Kapoor starrer a perfect entertainer for the masses. He did a fine job in every aspect of the drug drama. If we talk about the story, screenplay, and dialogues, they have been written by Ali Abbas Zafar and Aditya Basu. The story is interesting. The screenplay is engaging but predictable. While watching the film, you will be thoroughly entertained but also predict the next scene, which is a big drawback of the film.

Shahid Kapoor in and as Bloody Daddy.

The dialogues of the film are very much suitable to the genre as it has a perfect usage of abuses (gaali-galoch). Marcin Laskawiec’s cinematography is just fabulous. He has captured all kinds of scenes very beautifully. Especially, the transition of lights in each action sequence will leave you amused. However, Steven Bernard’s editing could have been better, as there are some unnecessarily dragged scenes in the Shahid Kapoor-starrer. Viewers can easily predict that

Bloody Daddy Movie Review: Performances

The star of the film has to be Shahid Kapoor. I don’t know how many times he is going to surprise his fans with his performances. In Bloody Daddy, the actor will leave you surprised with his amazing acting chops. Shahid beautifully delivered his emotions through dialogues and emotions. Especially, his chemistry with his son played by Sartaaj Kakkar is just perfect. Not only emotional scenes, but Shahid Kapoor excelled in action as well. If you are a Shahid Kapoor fan, don’t miss Bloody Daddy.

Apart from Shahid Kapoor, the one actor who is a surprise package of Bloody Daddy is Ronit Roy. He indeed got into the skin of his character, Sikander. Right from doing black comedy to giving death threats to Shahid and his son, the veteran actor surrendered himself for Sikander’s role in Bloody Daddy. Diana Penty as Aditi is average and has been completely wasted in the film. She has her moment, but the actress deserves a meaty role. On the other hand, Rajeev Khandelwal as Sameer is tough and complex. The actor has done a brilliant job in the film.

Sanjay Kapoor, who played another drug mafia is average. Other actors such as Vivan Bhathena, Zeishan Quadri and Ankur Bhatia have their moments. They also did a fine job.

Bloody Daddy Movie Review: Music And BGM

The best thing about Bloody Daddy has to be its music and background score. A couple of songs in the film match the theme of the film, but the BGM composed by Julius Packiam is just unique and damn amazing. The background tunes make Bloody Daddy an interesting film to watch.

Shahid Kapoor looks dapper in the stills from Bloody Daddy.

Bloody Daddy Movie Review: Final Verdict

Overall, Bloody Daddy turned out to be a surprising film of 2023. I personally feel that it should have been released in theatres. The Shahid Kapoor starrer excels in performances and some technical departments, but is marred by a predictable storyline. However, it will be a treat for people who love to watch action-thriller.

Bloody Daddy is streaming on JioCinema.
