If you’re a sports fanatic or an avid film enthusiast, you need to know the most efficient way to catch up to your favorite hobby. Check out the best ways to stream content online in India.
Gone are the days of cable TV when you had to wait for a specific time to watch a movie you were looking forward to. And you had to be at the mercy of the broadcaster to show the replay from a specific moment in a game which you missed. Now, with the rise of streaming platforms, you can, not only watch any movie or show whenever you want, but also go back and watch any important moment in a game. Today, there is a plethora of OTT platforms to choose from. So, which one fits your needs? Read on to know the best way to stream sports and movies online in India.
For the sports fanatic
If you’re a sports enthusiast, you will probably get the best value from Disney+ Hotstar. The platform contains a plethora of different sports to choose from. You can watch the ongoing India vs Sri Lanka series, English Premier League, Hockey Men’s world cup, Indian Super League, Ranji Trophy and more. The cheapest route to Disney+ Hotstar subscription is a Rs. 299 per month premium plan. However, you will get the biggest value in its yearly Super subscription which costs Rs. 899 (but you will have to tolerate ads and your resolution will be capped at 1080p).
And then there is SonyLiv which comes with its own selection of sports. If you’re a fan of UFC, Australian Open, Big Bash League or Prime Volleyball League, then this is the platform for you. The cheapest subscription is LIV Premium which will cost you Rs. 299 a month, however the best value comes at Rs. 599 a year mobile only subscription.
And finally, if you are a fan of IPL, then you have to go to JioCinema this year onwards, as the platform has bought the exclusive rights to the competition. Luckily, you don’t have to spend extra to watch JioCinema. You just need to have a Reliance Jio SIM card and an active data pack.
For the film enthusiast
Here, the choice gets trickier. First you have Disney+ Hotstar which comes with its entire library of Marvel, Pixar, Star Wars, Disney as well as tons of international and Indian movies and shows. Then there is Amazon Prime Videos which also has a stellar library of movies and shows and some really interesting documentaries. Netflix also brings its ever increasing catalog and boasts of a huge selection of original movies and shows.
But if you are more of a regional content consumer, SonyLIV, Zee, Voot, Aha and others are also strong contenders for a subscription.
So, what can you do? If you can only afford a single subscription, then we would recommend Netflix because it has the cheapest plan among all other options at Rs. 149 a month. However, you can probably get better value from Zee5 which has a yearly subscription for just Rs. 499.
Alternatively, you can also get Jio Fiber, Jio mobile, Airtel or Vodafone Idea’s special packs to get a bundle subscription where you can access multiple OTT platforms at the same time.
