Over the years, there have been plenty of comedies that have made viewers bowl over laughing. Comedies will always have their place in cinema, drawing audeinces in with funny premises, sharp writing, and excellent performances.
HBO Max has its fair share of comedy movies for viewers. One can expect to find classic comedy films from the Golden Age of Hollywood, as well as modern classics to feast on. If viewers go to HBO Max for comedies, they definitely will not be short on laughs.
10/10 Austin Powers: International Man Of Mystery Spoofs The Bond Films

Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery has Austin Powers (Mike Myers), a secret agent from 1967, waking up from cryogenic sleep in 1997 and being asked to battle his archenemy Dr. Evil (also Myers) when he returns from space to wreak havoc on the world.
International Man of Mystery was a spoof of the James Bond movies, and actually altered that franchise forever as the Bond movies had to make a change in tone. International Man of Mystery spawned two sequels, and the long-rumored fourth Austin Powers film is still on the docket.
9/10 Caddyshack Is Arguably The Funniest Sports Movie Of All-Time

Caddyshack is an 80s classic that follows the inner workings of an exclusive golf club. Between its eccentric members, an odd greenskeeper and a destructive gopher, hilarity ensues at the posh club. The film stars Chevy Chase, Rodney Dangerfield, Ted Knight and Bill Murray.
Caddyshack was the directorial debut of Harold Ramis, who carved out a great Hollywood comedy career after coming from The Second City. Caddyshack is often cited as the funniest sports movie ever made, and paved the way for many other sports comedies that followed.
8/10 Crazy, Stupid, Love Was The Beginning Of The Emma Stone-Ryan Gosling Collaborations

Crazy, Stupid, Love finds Cal Weaver (Steve Carell) at a low point in his life. His wife wants a divorce, his kids aren’t crazy about him, and he spends his nights lamenting about his problems at a local bar. Things change when he meets Jacob (Ryan Gosling), a womanizer who frequents the bar and takes Cal under his wing to help him reinvent himself.
The cast’s chemistry is easily the best element of the film. Crazy, Stupid, Love was the first of many collaborations between Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, who have gone on to star in several hit movies since this one including: Gangster Squad and La La Land.
7/10 Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story Had An Effect On ESPN Years Later
Runtime: 93 Minutes
Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story follows Average Joe’s Gym, run by Peter LeFluer, as it faces foreclosure. The only way to keep the gym? Winning a dodgeball tournament in Las Vegas. The film stars Vince Vaughn, Ben Stiller and Christine Taylor.
Dodgeball revived interest in the game of dodgeball and is easily one of the funniest, most quotable comedies ever made. ESPN even parodied ESPN8: The Ocho, the channel the tournament is broadcast on in the film, in both 2017 and 2020. Talks for a sequel have been ongoing for years, but nothing has come to fruition just yet.
6/10 Wedding Crashers Was A Breakthrough For R-Rated Comedies
Runtime: 119 Minutes
Wedding Crashers stars Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn as a pair of womanizers who crash weddings in order to meet women. When they crash the wedding for the daughter of the Treasury Secretary, they both begin to fall in love, but things quickly become complicated by their lies.
The film was a sleeper hit in 2005 and was the sixth-highest grossing movie of the year. Wedding Crashers also became the first R-rated comedy to gross over $200 million at the box office. Wilson and Vaughn’s chemistry in the film was great, and they teamed up ten years later in The Internship.
5/10 Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle Revitalized Neil Patrick Harris’ Career
Runtime: 88 Minutes
Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle finds the titular pair of stoner best friends trying to find a White Castle after they get the munchies. Their adventure gives them a lot more than they bargained for, including: meeting Neil Patrick Harris, riding a Cheetah, and even hang gliding to the White Castle.
Harris played a fictionalized version of himself, and received a lot of praise for his performance. Harris played the role as a womanizing, crass and hard drug user, which was very against type for him due to his role as a child star on Doogie Howzer, M.D. The role revitalized his acting career, and eventually set him on the path to playing Barney Stinson in How I Met Your Mother.
4/10 Rush Hour Is A Great Buddy Cop Movie With Two Different Types Of Protagonists
Runtime: 98 Minutes
Rush Hour teams Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker together as polar opposites who must work a case involving the kidnapping of a Chinese diplomat’s daughter. The two find that their very different backgrounds actually complement each other, and they turn out to be effective partners.
Rush Hour received positive reviews and was seen as a great addition to the buddy cop genre. Chan and Tucker had great chemistry and were seen as a great comedic duo. The film spawned a franchise with two successful sequels afterwards and a fourth on the way.
3/10 My Big Fat Greek Wedding Is The Highest-Grossing Romantic Comedy Of All-Time
Runtime: 94 Minutes
My Big Fat Greek Wedding sees an unlucky in love Greek woman Toula fall in love with American Ian. Their plans to get married are hilariously complicated by Toula’s family struggling to accept that she is not marrying somebody who is Greek.
The film was a sleeper hit and remains the highest grossing romantic comedy of all-time at $368 million. A sequel followed in 2016 and a third film wrapped filming in 2022. My Big Fat Greek Wedding was nominated for Best Original Screenplay at the Academy Awards in 2003, written by star Nia Vardalos.
2/10 Young Frankenstein Is Mel Brooks’ Best Work

A Mel Brooks classic, Young Frankenstein is a parody of the horror genre that swept the 1930s and 1940s. A neurosurgeon is invited to Transylvania after he inherits his grandfather’s castle and finds the ability to reanimate a corpse. Gene Wilder stars as Dr. Frankenstein and Peter Boyle plays the Frankenstein monster.
Young Frankenstein is often cited as Mel Brooks’ best work and currently is ranked 13th on AFI’s Top 100 funniest movies ever made. Brooks even adapted it into a musical in 2007, and it ended up on Broadway more than thirty years after the film was released.
1/10 The Hangover Is The Highest-Grossing R-Rated Comedy Of All-Time

The Hangover follows a group of friends who go to Vegas for a bachelor party. When they awake the next morning with massive hangovers, they realize that they lost the groom. The remaining three hilariously retrace their steps from the night before and try to find their friend.
The Hangover was a smash hit upon release. The movie became the highest grossing R-rated comedy of all time and even won the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture-Musical or Comedy in 2010. The Hangover became the first entry in a trilogy of films, but none reached the success of the first film.
