The Super 12 round of the 2022 T20 World Cup kicked off with the Finn Allen show and the right-handed batsman sent Australia to a leather hunt. The youngster showed his intensions right from the first ball of the innings and there was no looking back for New Zealand, who went on to post a big total of 200 on the board.
Australia had their hopes pinned on David Warner in the chase but the left-handed batsman was dismissed in the most unluckiest fashion ever. The former Australia vice-captain was looking to send the ball towards led side but it ended up taking an edge off his bat.
After hitting the bat, the ball made a contact with Warner’s pads before hitting his bat again. After the 2nd contact with the bat, the ball hit the stumps and Warner departed for a mere total of 5 off 6 balls. The batsman and fans couldn’t believe what had just happened as they have never witnessed such a dismissal in the game.
The senior batsman departed early and it put Australia under pressure right away. After dismissing Warner, Tim Southee got the big scalp of Mitchell Marsh in the 5th over. Before Marsh’s dismissal, the home team had also lost the wicket of Aaron Finch for 13.
After Southee, Mitchell Santner joined the party and bowled a tidy spell of 4-0-31-3. His spell proved to be the game-changer and Australia have already lost six wickets even before searching the 100-run mark.
Talking of NZ, the Kane Williamson-led side rode on Devon Conway’s heroics to register a big total. After Allen’s early show, Conway took over the charge and he remained unbeaten on 92 off 58. Jimmy Neesham gave the finishing touch to the innings and remained unbeaten on 26 off 13. Josh Hazlewood (2) and Adam Zampa (1) were only wicket-takers for their team.
