Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor are gearing up for the premiere of their much-awaited sci-fi film Brahmastra. The couple along with director Ayan Mukerji planned to visit Ujjain’s Mahakaleshwar temple for the Sandhya Aarti. However, they were not allowed inside the temple following Bajrang Dal’s protests against Ranbir’s old ‘beef eating’ statement. Reacting to the entire scenario, Ayan expressed his disappointment and said that he felt bad when the incident happened.
During a press conference in New Delhi, Ayan said that he had gone to Mahakal before the release of the Brahmastra poster and wanted to visit it again before the release of the film. Both Alia and Ranbir were excited to join him, but seeing the protests, Ayan decided to go alone to seek blessings and energy for the film. “I felt very bad and when I went I felt that they too could have come and had their darshans,” he said.
Reciting the Brahmastra motto ‘Light is Coming’, Ayan urged people to spread warmth and positivity as everyone wants it and the whole world needs it too. He said that they have worked hard and there will be a celebration of Indian culture in the film. He said that every single person will feel the positivity and the movie will touch everyone’s heart.
Meanwhile, netizens are calling for a boycott of Brahmastra over Alia’s statement on nepotism where she said that “If you don’t like me, don’t watch me.” Her statement irked many and they decided not to watch the film in theaters like they did with Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha, Vijay Deverakonda’s Liger, Akshay Kumar’s Raksha Bandhan and Taapsee Pannu’s Dobaaraa.
Brahmastra stars Alia, Ranbir, Mouni Roy, Amitabh Bachchan and Nagarjuna along with Shahrukh Khan in a cameo. It will be released in theaters worldwide on September 9.
