TOP STORY: Atlético want to bring Ronaldo back to Madrid
Atletico Madrid are hoping to make room in their squad for the Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo by moving Antoine Griezmann outside the club, according to The Times.
Rojiblancos are one of the big European sides who have been consistently linked with an interest in signing Ronaldo, who has told United he wants to leave this summer to play in the Champions League next season. The Mail reported this week that the 37-year-old would be interested in joining Atletico despite spending nine years at their arch-rivals Real Madrid.
The Spanish club could free up some cash to fund a deal for Ronaldo by removing Griezmann from their wage bill. The France international is preparing for the second season of a two-year loan from Barcelona, a deal which includes an obligation to make the transfer permanent for €40m next summer.
As Atletico look to move Griezmann, the Mirror report that United could let Ronaldo leave on a season-long loan to satisfy his desire for Champions League football, in exchange for him extending his contract by a year until 2024 Mr.
Ronaldo has yet to join Erik ten Hag’s squad for pre-season, and the Guardian reports that United will seek clarity on the No.7’s situation this week before making a decision on his future.

4.18pm BST: Jurgen Klopp has said he does not plan to make any more signings this summer unless his hand is forced.
Liverpool signed a striker Darwin Nunes and the young midfielder duo Fabio Carvalho and left back Calvin Ramsay in this window while Sadio Mane left to join Bayern Munich.
“Unless we have injuries or player sales, we have our squad,” Klopp told Sky. “Hopefully there won’t be so Liverpool fans can focus on other things.
Klopp added when asked if he expected more players to leave Anfield: “I’m not talking about those things, you know that. Look at the results, not the process – remember!”
President Joan Laporta discusses Lionel Messi’s shock departure from Barcelona one year on.
15.34 BST: That’s what Barcelona president Joan Laporta told ESPN Lionel MessiThe club’s ‘head’ at the club is ‘not finished’ and feels it is his responsibility to ensure the striker has a ‘prettier ending’ at Camp Nou.
Messi ended his 21-year spell at Barca when the club could not afford to renew his contract last summer, with the striker subsequently joining Paris Saint-Germain, whom he helped win the Ligue 1 title.
“Messi was everything,” Laporta told ESPN. “For Barca, he is probably the greatest player, the most effective. For me he is only comparable to Johan Cruyff. But it had to happen one day. We had to make a decision as a consequence of what we inherited. The institution is in charge of players, coaches.
“I hope the Messi chapter is not over. I think it’s our responsibility to try to … find a moment to fix this chapter that’s still open and not closed, so it turns out that it’s meant to be, and that there’s a nicer ending.”
Laporta has previously spoken of his desire to bring Messi back to Barca, where he has won the Ballon d’Or six times and holds the club’s records for goals (672) and appearances (778). The Argentine forward has a year remaining on his PSG deal, with an option for another year.
“As president of Barca, I did what I had to do. But both as president of Barca and on a personal level, I think I owe him,” he added.
14.47 BST: Inter could extend Romelu Lukaku’s loan from Chelsea for another season, according to the Telegraph.
Lukaku returned to Inter just a year after his goals fired them to the Serie A title and then left them for a second spell at Chelsea. But after failing to fit into manager Thomas Tuchel’s system, scoring just eight Premier League goals, the 29-year-old returns to Serie A on a €7m loan deal for the 2022-23 season.
Telegraph reports that the topic of extending this loan for another year has already been raised. If that option is accepted, Lukaku will have two years left on his Chelsea contract, making a permanent return to Inter a greater possibility.
As Real Madrid begin their pre-season tour of the United States – staying at the Beverly Hills Hotel in Los Angeles and training on the UCLA campus – Hazard spoke to ESPN’s Mauricio Pedrosa about his hopes for this season and why he’s not ready to give up on becoming his time at the club a success.

13.08 BST: West Ham Midfielder Declan Rice admitted that he finds the speculation surrounding him “annoying”.
The England international was a long-term target for Manchester United and boyhood club Chelsea, but he was appointed West Ham captain for next season following the retirement of Mark Noble.
The 23-year-old told Sky: “Every time I put the shirt on I go out there and give 100% and whatever happens off the pitch takes care of itself. I can’t control this. What I can control is going out there and trying to be the best player.
“It’s annoying because of the numbers attached to your name. You can’t control this at all, but sometimes there are things you see and read that you don’t want to hear because they aren’t actually true in some way.
“Over the last couple of seasons that’s what I’ve done and that’s the faith the manager has put in me, so all that speculation, that’s what comes with playing well I guess.”

Earlier this month, sources told ESPN’s Julien Laurence that PSG were ready to let him leave the club this summer, with Chelsea interested in the striker. Neymar, 30, featured in the second half of PSG’s 3-0 pre-season win over Urawa Red Diamonds on Saturday. After the match, he talked about his future plans.
“I still want to stay at the club,” he said in his post-match interview. “The club haven’t told me anything so far, so I don’t know what their plans are for me.
Neymar’s quotes came moments after new PSG manager Christophe Galtier said in his post-match press conference that he was unsure whether the Brazil international would remain at the club.
“Neymar has been working well since the start of the season,” Galtier said. “He also seems happy to me and very healthy. I spoke about his situation at a press conference.
“What will happen in the near future, at the end of the transfer market, I don’t know… I haven’t had an individual interview with him on that aspect. 10.00 BST: Tottenham manager Antonio Conte says Bayern Munich were ‘disrespectful’ when talking about his signing Harry Kane in the future.
Kane attempted a move to Manchester City last summer despite remaining in north London, scoring 17 goals in 37 Premier League games last season as he helped Spurs qualify for the Champions League.
German newspaper BILD reported on Saturday that Kane’s representatives had approached Bayern, with the striker’s outfit refusing to rule out a transfer.
Bayern are without a striker following the departure of long-term striker Robert Lewandowski, who joined Barcelona on Tuesday.
Speaking after Spurs’ 2-1 pre-season win over Rangers on Saturday, in which Kane scored twice, Conte expressed his disappointment at Bayern speaking publicly about his striker.
“I do not know why [Kane is linked with Bayern.] The situation at Tottenham is very clear and Harry is a very important part of the project. I don’t like to talk about players from another club. Maybe it’s a bit disrespectful to the other club,” Conte said.
