Kuttey is the first movie to hit theaters in 2023. It is an action thriller film directed by Aasmaan Bhardwaj, starring Naseeruddin Shah, Tabu, Arjun Kapoor, Radhika Madan and others. If you’re a fan of the genre but confused about watching Kuttey in theaters this weekend, here’s our review to help you make the right decision. What are you talking about?

Kuttey is based on corruption that is deeply rooted in the country. Arjun Kapoor plays Gopal Tiwari in the film. His sidekick, Kumud Mishra, plays Paaji. The two are the central characters and eventually other characters played by Tabu, Konkona Sen Sharma, Radhika Madan and others get connected and add to the story. The story of Kuttey begins with Gopal and Paaji getting suparis to meet a rival politician. Everything goes awry and then their plan to steal money begins, which again doesn’t end as planned. An assignment causes their lives to become entangled in deceit and betrayal. What’s new?

While the plot fails, the acting talent that is featured in the film manages to hold your attention. Kumud Mishra, the character of Tabu connects and draws you into the story. The music complements the drama and scenes. The second half of the film is where all the dots connect and the plot develops. There are several beats that break you in this gory caper.

What is not?

The pace of Kuttey is quite slow, especially in the first half. There are several subplots that disappear before intermission. It feels like a drag fest in the first half and in places in the second half. The plot hardly holds your attention. The script and direction are good, but could have been better, especially in the first half. As the plot unfolds, the end still seems far away.

BL Verdict:

While Kuttey looks like a snooze fest in the first half, the second half is not entirely disappointing. Watch it for some amazing acting skills from some of the best actors. I’m going with 2.5 stars.

Rating: 2.5 from 5
