Filipino designer Michel Bernardo also showed a captivating collection for her UAE label Malichè, with models walking out in an all-black and white lineup for a glam-look collection inspired by the 1960s and ‘70s. As a signature motif, a delicately sewn black rose. The striking show was made up of contemporary pieces incorporated into chic styles harking back to a bygone era. “It is a reminder — or maybe, a challenge — to all of us to do whatever we can do now, or we might unwittingly fall into the trap of an endless promise of tomorrow, which is but an illusion,” said Bernardo.

Tamam Humariff’s eponymous UAE-based label all held its show on Day 3 of Arab Fashion Week in the evening, continuing Humariff’s fascination in detailed textures and shimmering use of light. The Humariff fall winter 2022/23 couture collection connects the cultures of the Middle East with Russia, combining regally assembled dresses with hand-embroidered, more traditional features.

There’s a lot more to look forward to on Day 4, like Iraqi designer Mena Talal, Palestinian designer Ihab Jiryis, and Dubai-based Michael Cinco.
