In his latest interview, the ace music composer opined that sometimes India sends the ‘wrong movies’ to compete, only to bow out without earning a nomination or proceeding to win. He said, “Sometimes, I see that our movies go till the Oscar… they don’t get it. Wrong movies are being sent for the Oscars. And I am just like DON’T,” he said as quoted by The Indian Express.
He went on to add that the selecting committee should put themselves in another person’s shoes. “I have to be in Westerner’s shoes to see what’s happening here. I have to be in my shoes to see what they are doing,” he added.
This year, ‘Last Film Show’ was selected as India’s official entry to the Oscars. While the movie made it to the shortlist, it failed to bag a nomination. Considering the popularity of the film ‘RRR’, several Hollywood outlets debated on India’s decision to push the Gujarati film as a contender in the Best Foreign Film category, over the Telugu film that they said was a ‘Sureshot success’. Many outlets even said that had ‘RRR’ been the official pic, it would have walked away with a win.
This year, the German anti-war drama ‘All Quiet On The Western Front’ won the Academy Award for Best International film.
