VIJAYAWADA: The state government has waived interviews for all posts including Group 1 posts to be filled by Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) in future. Chief Secretary Aditya Nath Das issued a GO in this regard on Saturday. He said the decision to forgo interviews was taken to “maintain maximum transparency throughout the selection process.” Until now, APPSC was conducting interviews for the recruitment of Group 1 and other officials.

Henceforth, the ranking will be awarded based on the performance of the candidates in the written examinations. Selection of candidates will be done strictly on the basis of merit in written examinations. As part of an initiative to introduce reforms in the government recruitment process, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy at a high-level meeting on recruitment on 17 October 2019 decided to do away with personal interviews.

APPSC member Salam Babu told TNIE that the decision to do away with interviews for recruitment to all posts, including Group 1 services, was not taken suddenly. The government has actually decided to do away with personal interviews for the posts to be filled through APPSC from January 2020. Candidates will be selected on the basis of merit and written test performance.

However, the decision has not been implemented so far due to various reasons, he said. Stating that there were allegations that interviews for government jobs were not conducted in a transparent manner, Salam Babu said that the Chief Minister has taken a serious view of the matter and directed the APPSC to do away with interviews.
