ANZ-Roy Morgan consumer confidence falls 3.4 points to 75.0 – as perceptions of personal finances deteriorate

ANZ-Roy Morgan consumer confidence fell 3.4 points to 75 this week, completely erasing last week’s gains. The index has now spent a record 23 consecutive weeks below the 80 mark – beating the all-time record of five months (22 weeks) from September 1990 to January 1991, when the index was conducted on a monthly basis.

Consumer confidence is now 5.3 points below the same week a year ago, August 1-7, 2022 (80.3) and 3.2 points below the 2023 weekly average of 78.2. Looking across the States, consumer confidence fell in all five continental states.

Downing the index this week were declines in personal finance sentiment both year-over-year and expectations for next year.
