Now that fall is officially here, the weather is cooler and the air is fresh and crisp. It’s time to get out the jeans, plaid shirts, boots, scarves, and gloves and enjoy autumn activities like corn mazes, festivals, pumpkin picking, and hayrides. In addition, this time of the year is also the perfect time to curl up under a warm blanket with a bowl of buttery popcorn and a hot apple cider to enjoy a movie or two. As September comes to a close and October looms ahead, it’s time for all streaming sites to update their movies and tv shows with fresh, new content.
While just under three years old, Disney+ has already made its mark in the world of online streaming with its original hit show, The Mandalorian. Disney+ hopes to make their mark once again with an exciting lineup of new content in October. Besides new episodes of shows hitting the platform like Dancing with the Stars,Star Wars: Andor,She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, and The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers, Disney+ is also debuting a few original movies as well as classics, all of which will be available soon. These films are being added to Disney+ this October.
6 Drumline
Get ready to march along to this 2002 coming-of-age teen comedy-drama starring Nick Cannon as Devon Miles, a young teen from Harlem, New York who attends Atlanta A&T University with the hopes of joining their legendary marching band. Full of spirit and confidence, things start well for Devon who finds himself a girlfriend and a coveted place in the marching band. However, Devon’s cocky attitude soon clashes with one of his fellow band members, and he soon discovers that it takes a lot more than pure talent to succeed. Drumline is a fun story with a positive message about working together as a team to achieve victory, and will be on Disney+ beginning Friday, Oct. 7th.
5 Werewolf By Night
Celebrate spooky season with the world premiere of one of Disney+’s new original films, the monstrous superhero movie Werewolf By Night. During a dark and creepy night, a group of secret monster hunters come together and find themselves in a deadly and mysterious race to find a powerful relic. However, along the way, they encounter a whole lot of horror and terror.
Inspired by classic horror films of the 1930s and 1940s and very old-school comics, this black and white horror flick promises to be full of over-the-top dramatic moments, surprising violence, blood-curdling screams, and plenty of nostalgia. MCU lovers (especially fans of Marvel in the 70s) have been waiting a long time for this, but the wait is over on Friday, Oct. 7th.
4 The New Mutants
After her entire family is killed by a tornado, Danielle “Dani” Moonstar, barely escapes with her life and wakes up in a hospital run by Dr. Cecilia Reyes. There, Dani learns that she is one of five teenage mutants who possess superpowers and like her, her fellow mutants have all experienced a terrible tragedy or a traumatic event. Dr. Reyes says that she can help them, but Dani soon questions the doctor’s intentions and discovers that the hospital is actually a prison, holding the five New Mutants characters as prisoners and using their powers for evil.
The New Mutants is a 2020 Marvel standalone film in the X-Men film series and marks the 13th and so far final installment in the beloved superhero franchise. For a variety of reasons, the film was a massive box office bomb, making just $49 million on a roughly $80 million budget; in the years since, the unexpectedly scary film has found a cult audience, and people have been looking forward to its Disney+ streaming debut on Friday, Oct. 14th.
3 Into The Woods – Sing-Along
“Into the woods, it’s time to go, I hate to leave, I have to, though. Into the woods, it’s time, and so, I must begin my journey.” Get ready to sing along to the fun yet twisted musical Into The Woods which tells the story of what happens to our favorite fairy tale characters after they get their happy ending. This 2014 fantasy musical has a star-studded cast, some of them with angelic voices like Anna Kendrick and Emily Blunt, and some of them leaving much to be desired with their singing. Some stage musicals don’t translate well to a film adaptation but Into The Woods is an exception, featuring dreamy scenery, gorgeous sets, strong performances, and a dark story slowly unfolding in a compelling way. Viewers can participate in the sing-along version on Disney+ starting Friday, Oct. 14th.
2 Hulk: Where Monsters Dwell
Before there were the monsters and more supernatural elements in the MCU, there was Marvel’s 2016 animated superhero film Hulk: Where Monsters Dwell, which hits Disney+ on Friday, Oct. 28th, just in time for Halloween. In this fun family adventure, the villainous Nightmare plans to take over the world but not if the good guys can stop him first. Join the Hulk, Dr. Strange, and the Howling Commandos as they join forces to try to save the universe. This October, treat yourself to a wild, and spooky ride with Marvel’s Hulk: Where Monsters Dwell.
1 Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel
Prepare yourself for some squeaking action in the vibrant, laugh-out-loud family comedy, Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel. The chipmunks, Alvin, Simon, and Theodore, thought they had achieved world fame, but their popularity is about to come crashing down when they tackle new territory, high school. There, the chipmunks find themselves rivals of an all-female chipmunk group, The Chipettes, which consists of three band members, Brittany, Eleanor, and Jeannette. Can the two chipmunk groups learn to put their differences aside and work together to create one epic band? Find out in this family-friendly feel-good comedy, streaming on Disney+ starting Friday, Oct. 28th.
