PCB’s social media is one of the most active compared to other cricket teams in sharing videos, interviews and other happenings including pep talks in the dressing room.

Fast bowling greats Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis have slammed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for sharing clips from the dressing room on social media.

PCB’s social media is one of the most active compared to other cricket teams in sharing videos, interviews and other happenings including pep talks in the dressing room.

PCB released a video of Babar Azam’s speech after the defeat against India in the first match of the T20 World Cup and then they also shared the videos of Babar and mentor Matthew Hayden having inspirational talks with the other players in the dressing room soon after the team qualified for the semi-finals on Sunday, November 6.

Akram and Younis believe that whatever happens in the dressing room should be kept secret and not revealed to the world.

“Look, if I were Babar Azam, I would have stopped the guy from making videos because sometimes some very personal things are said and done and they can be embarrassing if they leak out,” Akram said on A Sports channel.

“It’s nice to allow fans to interact with their favorite players through social media, but it’s getting too much.

“I don’t think I’ve seen any other team reach that level in this World Cup or before. I can understand wanting to get more followers and views, but it’s too much.”

Interestingly, when Pakistan lost to Zimbabwe and struggled to secure a World Cup semi-final berth, the PCB’s social media department went silent, with even the chairman choosing to remain silent.

But as soon as Pakistan reached the semi-finals after beating Bangladesh, the PCB resumed releasing videos of the players, including travel diaries, pep talks, interviews on social media, with even chairman Ramiz Raja tweeting.

Akram said that such videos being taken in and outside the dressing room also distract the players.

“There are recordings going on all the time. Imagine sitting there and not knowing that someone is recording – a message I want to convey to my team,” he said.

Younis also echoed Akram’s views and noted that Pakistan cricket has suffered in the past because it had a history of leaks and incidents in the dressing room.

“I agree 100 percent with what Wasim said. Whatever happens in the dressing room has to stay there,” he said.

“It’s a problem not only now, but also earlier when a lot of information was leaked to the media – people were shouting, arguing, fighting. And now you yourself are recording and showing the events of the locker room to the world,” he said.
