After a new advertisement of a Tobacco brand, Vimal, aired a few days ago, social media’s backlash against it raised the problematic side of well-known celebrities promoting addictions like smoking, pan masala, gutka and things alike.
On Thursday, Akshay Kumar apologised for signing this deal and now Ajay Devgn–during the promotions of his upcoming film, Runway 34–also shared his thoughts about the brand endorsement with Indian Express.

While talking about facing recent backlash for endorsing tobacco brand, Vimal, Ajay said, “It is a personal choice. When you do something, you also see how harmful it would be. Some things are harmful, some are not.”
He further continued, “I would say it without naming it because I don’t want to promote it; I was doing elaichi. What I feel is more than advertisements, if certain things are so wrong, then they should not be sold.”
Ajay, along with Akshay Kumar and Shah Rukh Khan, featured in a new Vimal ad, for which the trio faced massive criticism from social media for celebrities promoting brands injurious to health.

Fans clearly didn’t take it well when Akshay Kumar, who is usually known as a fitness enthusiast, was seen promoting this gutka brand. Previously, he has in fact, preached against tobacco smoking. After all the criticism and trolls, Akshay took to his Twitter handle this Thursday to announce that he is stepping down as the brand ambassador and apologised for his actions.
While Akshay joined Vimal Elaichi recently, Ajay and SRK have been associated with the brand for years now.
