Just days after the controversial takeover of her former beau Elon Musk, Amber Heard appears to have deleted her Twitter account. And now model Gigi Hadid has decided to leave the microblogging site, saying it’s no longer a safe place.
The 27-year-old supermodel took to Instagram to announce her decision, writing: “Long time coming, but especially with the new management. It’s becoming more and more of a cesspool of hate and bigotry and it’s not a place I want to be a part of. I can’t stay, it’s a safe place for no one, nor a social platform that will do more good than harm.”
Amber Heard, who previously used her official Twitter name @realamberheard, is no longer visible on the microblogging site. This sparked speculation that Armbar had deleted her account following the Elon Musk takeover. A message on her previous page read: “This account does not exist. Try looking for another one.”
Musk’s takeover of Twitter was completed last week, after which he promptly declared himself “Chief Twit.” He is now the sole board member and has proposed a number of changes to the social media platform since his arrival, including a much-condemned subscription service for verified users.
Amber dated the billionaire businessman for about a year before he started dating musician Grimes. In addition to Gigi, many big names have also decided to leave the platform, including Sara Bareilles, Toni Braxton, Mick Foley and Grey’s Anatomy screenwriter Shonda Rhimes since Musk officially became Twitter’s owner and CEO on Oct. 27.
